“Yes,” she whispered again. His breathing had deepened. The darkness around them was so complete in that room. She figured he was already asleep. She could feel the steady beat of his heart beneath her head, so he had to be asleep, right? That meant it was okay for her to confess, “I could love you. I do love you.”
Then…
His heartbeat kicked up beneath her ear.
Charlotte realized that Logan hadn’t gone to sleep, after all.
Chapter Twenty-One
Logan was so fucking mission oriented.
Maybe he should have been a CIA spy. He would have obviously been a killer spy. In another life…
But, better to focus on his current life. His current mission. His mission goals.
Step one…Get Charlotte to marry me.
Done.
Step two…Fuck her until she screams my name.
Done. In the most exceedingly pleasurable way possible. Hell, yes. Done. Done. Done.
Step three…Convince her to fall in love with me.
And, amazingly enough, done. She’d just said the words. Sure, sure, his lovely Charlotte had probably thought he was asleep, and he had been well on his way to dreamland after two insane orgasms, but he’d heard her words. No taking them back now.
I could love you. I do love you.
No way on earth he was going to let her get away from him now. So, that just left one final step in his mission.
Kill the bastard who drugged her.
It was time to put the sonofabitch in the ground.
Then Logan would live happily ever after with his beautiful spy.
Done.
Chapter Twenty-Two
A phone was ringing.
A very annoying, loud ring.
Charlotte cracked open an eye. She expected to see Logan sprawled right next to her in the ever-so-comfortable bed but…
He wasn’t there.
She shot upright. Then realized a faint light shone from beneath the bathroom door, and she was pretty sure she heard the steady, quiet roar of a shower.
The phone on the bedside rang again. Not a cell phone. The landline at the hotel.
Her hand flew out and turned on the bedside lamp. She grabbed the phone’s handset. She hauled it to her ear. “Hello?”
“She had to die.”
Her blood froze in her veins when she heard the raspy voice. Not Harper. Do not tell me that you killed Harper!
