“Same.”

We quickly pack up our stuff and head over to his Jeep.

Being with Wes has been the easiest thing ever, and that’s a scary thought, because what happens when he decides he doesn’t want to be with me anymore? Which is what always ends up happening.

Chapter twenty-seven

Wes

I spent most of the ride home with sweaty palms, not because it was hot out, but because I was anxious that today wasn’t enough. That my picnic and hike date was too lame. She said she enjoyed herself, but would she have rather done something else? Maybe I should have asked her what she wanted to do instead of guessing.

I close my eyes, trying to calm the chaos in my brain. Hadley would have told you if she wasn’t having a good time.

“I think I’m gonna go shower,” I say once we’re inside the apartment. I need a few minutes alone to gather myself and stop the anxiety spiral I’m on. “Want to watch a movie later?”

“A movie sounds good. I probably should shower too.”

I nod and head into my bedroom without a backward glance.

Alone in my room, it hits me—was she expecting me to invite her to shower with me? Shit. Are we at that stage in our relationship? Are we even in a relationship? Why am I so good at helping the guys with their relationships and giving them advice, but with my own, I’m failing miserably? I run my hands through my hair, tugging on the ends, my gaze darting to the door.

Do I go out there and ask her if she wants to join me in the shower? Probably missed that opportunity. Fuck. I hope I didn’t screw things up. I inhale deeply. It’s fine. Everything’s going to be fine.

“I should talk to her,” I mumble as I strip out of my dirty clothes. “I should stop assuming and ask.” It’s that simple, right?

I hurry through my shower, dry off, and put clothes on, and after what feels like forever but is probably only ten minutes, I’m making my way into the living room, expecting to find Hadley on the couch. But she isn’t there. Before I can call her name, I hear a clatter of dishes.

“What are you—” My voice catches in my throat as I step into the kitchen.

She’s standing in front of the microwave, which has popcorn popping inside it, wearing a Storm shirt with my name and number on it and no shorts. Guess that’s my answer about whether she had fun on our date or not.

“Hadley Jane.” I stalk into the kitchen and lean against the counter. “What are you doing?”

She peers at me over her shoulder. “Making popcorn. We’re watching a movie. We need a snack.”

She looks like the perfect snack to me.

“Do you know what it does to me seeing you wearing a shirt with my name on it? And no pants?” I rub my hands together, taking her in.

She steps over to me. “It looked comfortable. And pants are overrated.”

“It’s sexy as fuck on you,” I grind out, balling my fists at my side.

She raises her hands above her head in a stretch, and her shirt rides up. Pretty sure she did that on purpose.

“You’re missing underwear though,” I rasp, running a hand over my jaw.

“I was searching for my phone charger in my nightstand, and I saw my vibrator, which led me to thinking about last night, which led me to having wet panties, so I took them off.”

Fuck, this woman is going to be the death of me. Because now I’m thinking about last night too. Her gaze drops to my dick, which I know is now standing at attention. Before I can say anything else, the popcorn finishes popping, and she spins around and opens the microwave door before it can burn.

I step up behind her, letting her feel exactly what she does to me, and whisper in her ear, “I can think of something else to do that’s more fun than watching a movie.” I feather kisses along her neck and reach around her and cup one of her breasts.

She grinds back against me. “What did you have in mind?” she asks breathlessly.

“I’ll give you a hint. It involves a bed and less clothes.” I move my hand from her breast and trail a finger down her chest to the bottom of her shirt, where I play with the hem.

“Mmmm, that sounds fun,” she grinds out, taking my hand and guiding it to where she wants it.
