Raven: You sent me two last night after I texted you the dates.

Me: Oh. Yeah.

Me: Regretting this yet?

Raven: Yes, thoroughly regretting giving you my number.

Me: *baby crying* meme

Raven:

Me: Are you working today?

Raven: No.

Me: Perfect. Meet me at The Dock. I told Savannah we were coming.

Raven: What!? What if I said no? Or I was working?

Me:

Raven: You’re exhausting

Me: So I’ve been told.

Chapter Eight

MIA

I still had no clue why I was there. Did he already confirm availability for the dates I’d given him the night before? And if so, why did we need to meet there?

I got out of my car and walked to the front door of The Dock, and right toward a smiling Zack.

“What are we doing here?” I asked.

“Seeing if there’s availability.” He said it like that was the obvious answer. But didn’t he tell me he was going to check with Savannah?

“You could have just called.” I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes at him.

“Nah.” He shook his head with a chuckle. “That’s so impersonal.”

Was he kidding me? We were booking an event hall, not looking to buy the business. Why was he so exasperating? “That’s how everyone does things.”

“Not how I do things.”

“I’m so confused.” I slammed my hands on my hips. “Didn’t you already talk to Savannah? You said you told her we were coming.”

“Yeah. I just texted that I needed a favor, and I’d see her soon.” He opened the door to the restaurant with that goofy-ass smile of his. “And now we can get lunch too. Come on.”

I sighed, knowing it was pointless to try and talk any more sense into him.

We took seats at the bar and waited for Savannah to finish up with a customer. She sauntered over and leaned on the bar with a smirk. “I knew I sensed some heat between you two at the volleyball game last week.”

“What?” I sputtered.

Zack laughed, but didn’t correct her assumption. Jerk.

“We’re not—” I looked from her back to Zack, almost identical shit-stirring expressions on their faces. “I’m starting to understand why you two dated.”
