“Mine,” I whisper, my voice broken, my whole body shaking. I’ve waited a helluva long time to have my curvy girl right where I want her.
Right where she’s always belonged. In my heart. It might have been a drunken mistake that brought us here but heaven knew what I needed and helped me find her any way possible.
Even a sinner deserves a second chance and this angel is mine.
EPILOGUE: REVA
Islip in the door and shut it quietly. It’s midnight and I had to go out on a late-night call. I don’t want to wake Tom or the kids.
I smile when I see the blankets piled up on the couch. I should have known.
Tom pops his head up and smiles sleepily at me. “Hey, baby girl. How are you? Did everything go alright?”
I nod my head and slip out of my coat and shoes. “It’s out and it didn’t spread. Only thing that burned was the house and Mrs. Withers was already moved in with her daughter out of state so nobody was inside.”
I climb onto the couch and curl up on my husband’s chest, feeling all the stress of the day melt off of me, curling my fingers into his bare chest.
“How did things go with the kids today?” Tom and I work opposite schedules so that our kids always have a parent home with them. It works although it means that we have less time alone together. Which is why when we do have a few minutes to ourselves it’s so damn special.
“Fine. Although Fee managed to get in trouble today.”
“Oh no! She didn’t do the same thing that Foster’s daughter did, did she?”
He glares at me. “She’s only five. She’s not doing anything like that. She did get into an argument with a boy about whether girls can drive trucks.”
I groan and bury my face in his chest, the scent of him around me calming all my crazy thoughts. This is where I belong.
“I’m gonna guess she told him that her mom drives a truck.”
“She told him that her mom is a bad-ass that drives a huge truck to fires and then runs in to save people.”
My face flushes and I groan, biting my lip and peeking at him. “I’m so sorry. She never mentions you when she manages to get in trouble.”
He snorts and buries his nose in my hair, breathing deep. “I don’t give a shit. I’m glad that she’s as proud of her mama as I am. She should be talking about you.”
‘Ugh. Well, at least she didn’t punch him. How was Rafe?”
“He’s been good. I mean he’s only three so he’s just happy when he gets to play with his favorite toys and I find the juice he likes at the store!”
I chuckle and snuggle closer, my body tingling and my nipples tightening into stiff points.
Tom sucks in a sharp breath and I feel his cock stir under me. It’s been seven years and we’re still just as hot for each other as we’ve always been.
“Reva…I know you’re tired, baby girl. Let’s go up to bed. You need to rest before the kids wake up in the morning. You know they never sleep in on the weekends.”
I do know that. I know that my little hellions are always up at first light. And I am tired.
But there’s something I need more than rest right now. I run my lips down my husband’s chest, smiling at his sharp intake of breath and his body stiffening under me.
His hand grasps my wrists in one of his and he growls, “Baby, you’re playing with fire.”
I roll my hips over him and lean in to rub my cheek against his, whispering in his ear, “I need you, Tom. I can sleep anytime. I want you.”
He growls and then stands up. I wrap my legs around his waist and let him carry me upstairs, his eyes straight ahead so that he doesn’t drop me.
That’s one thing I love about my husband. I’ve never felt as safe and loved as I do with him. He shows me every day that I’m the most important thing in the world to him. Well, our family too.
But in these moments when we’re alone, everything feels perfect. I’m where I was meant to be.
