And suddenly the same man who couldn’t live without her figured out how to disappear just fine.

Dropped her like she was nothing. Like we were nothing and all that chasing had just been about proving he could catch her, not keeping her once he did.

So no, I do not trust men who make wanting look easy.

I do not trust pretty faces with too much confidence, or men who smile like every no is just a challenge they haven’t won yet.

And I definitely do not trust the way my body is still humming from three minutes of Revel standing too close and running his stupidly tempting mouth.

I step inside the garage behind the girls, lifting my drink to my lips as if that can wash away the heat sitting low in my stomach.

Trouble like Revel is not something I need.

Or want.

Obviously.

I’m just walking away very fast because I’m mature, emotionally stable, and deeply committed to making healthy choices.

So naturally, I’m probably fucked.

Chapter Two

Revel

She fucking wants me. Bad.

And I ain’t being cocky. Not this time.

Cece can walk off with all that attitude swinging behind her and act like I’m a problem she’s already handled, but her pretty little body sold her out before her mouth could try and clean up the mess. I saw her eyes hit my mouth. The way her grip tightened around that cup when I got close. And every smartass comeback tonight took just a beat too long, like part of her wanted to see what I’d do before she remembered she was supposed to shut me down.

That’s not nothing.

That’s a woman talking herself out of showing just how much she’s affected.

I watch her cross the lot toward the garage, hair moving down her back. She doesn’t look back. Doesn’t even give me the satisfaction of a side-eye.

Mean.

Annoying as fuck, but hot.

She’s doing it on purpose too. That’s what really gets me.

Cece knows ignoring me hits harder than flirting would, and I hate that it fucking works. I hate that I’m standing here grinning at her back like some dumbass who just found a new bad habit and already knows he’s keeping it.

And yeah, there are plenty of other girls here I could chase instead of the one acting like wanting me would ruin her whole life.

But that’s the problem.

They’d be too easy.

The sweet ones are fun. The flirty ones are easy as hell to get into bed. But a woman who looks me dead in the face and treats me like a warning label she already skimmed and decided to ignore?

Yeah.

That’ll fuck with a man.

In all the best and worst ways.
