She snickered as shesettled into her aging Civic and started the engine.
Connor headed inside.Alone. To watch baseball. Or maybe porn. Sabrina was right aboutone thing: he really needed to get laid.
CHAPTER THREE
“I’mhe-eeeeere and I have be-eeeeeer.”
“If you say, ‘I’m a poetand don’t know it’, you’re wearing that beer home,” Jeremyhollered, his voice echoing off the high ceiling of thekitchen.
David appeared in thedoorway. “But I do know it.”
Jeremy gave him a look ofdisgust and took the six-pack he held out.
“I also know you haveSparky’s.”
Jeremy laughed. David couldscent good food from a block away. “Your timing is impeccable. Thedelivery guy just dropped it off.”
“Delivery? It’s like a milefrom here.”
“You’re the one who keepsreminding me of all the money I have now. Why should I get off myrich ass and go get food when some guy will bring it to me for afew bucks more?”
David tilted his head andrubbed his chin as if giving the idea careful consideration. “Goodpoint. How hot did you get it?”
“Medium. And I got you aleg quarter.”
“Awww, you know I can eatMediumPlus.”
Sparky’s was known fortheir outrageous spiciness. Their mild was as spicy as most peoplecould take it, and their medium was like most place’s extra hot.“The last time you went that spicy you spent the next day in thebathroom. If you’re staying here tonight, I don’t want to facethose consequences.”
David pouted. “Fine. Whatelse did you get?”
“Fries,obviously.”
“And slaw?”
“Yes.” Jeremy loved drawingit out, watching David’s excitement build.
“And corn pudding?” Davidwas bouncing like a kid. No one would know he was a well-respectedAssistant DA.
“Of course.”
“Dessert?”
“Cheerwinecake.”
David dramatically laid hishands over his heart. “I could kiss you.”
Jeremy screwed up his faceat the thought. “Ewww. Don’t.”
“You have no idea whatyou’re missing.” David winked. He was straight but he would alsoflirt with anyone.
“I love how supportive youare of me, but seriously, you’re the last person I want tokiss.”
David put one hand on hiship and waggled a fry at Jeremy with the other. “You’re turninginto a grumpy old queen.”
Jeremy scowled. “David, youbetter stop while you’re ahead.”
