“You lock up?” heasked.
She nodded.“Yep.”
“Did you leave the keyunder the stone rabbit?”
“Yes, sir.” Sabrina salutedhim.
Connor flipped her off. “Iwas just checking.”
“You’re always checking. The rest of us do remember things on occasion, you know? Sometimeswe even manage jobs without you.”
Connor started to protestbut Sabrina was right. He was a micromanager. But this company washis and he wouldn’t settle for anything less than perfect. He blewout a long breath and wiped his sweaty face again. “You’ve done agreat job so far.”
“Thanks.” She patted him onthe shoulder. “I know you’re just nervous.”
“Nervous? Marines don’t getnervous.” That was a lie and a half, but Connor had a reputation touphold.
Sabrina rolled her eyes, seeing right through him. “Right.”
“Quality of servicematters.”
Sabrina smiled like she washumoring him. “Of course it does. That’s why I actually follow yourinstructions instead of blowing you off.”

“You’re pushing yourluck.”
“Try to relax once in awhile. Please?”

He shook off the memories.“Yeah. And I know I’m an asshole.”
“You are not. Trust me.I’ve worked for some assholes, and you’re not one. You’redemanding, but not unreasonably so. The business is your baby. Youwant to take care of it. I get that. I just hate seeing you sostressed.”

She raised her brow. “Don’teven try.”
Connor fought back the urgeto snap. “Fine.”
“I’m going out with somefriends tonight. Why don’t you come along?”
Why was she always tryingto make him socialize? “I don’t think—”
“One of them is really hotand she just broke up with her boyfriend…”
“Are you seriously tryingto get me to sleep with your friend?”
“Of course not! What kindof girl do you think she is?” Sabrina seemed to be trying to keep astraight face. “Okay, yeah I am.” She let go of herlaughter.
“I don’t think—”
“If you don’t click withher, there’ll be plenty of other women there.”
