“Rude.”
“Good thing for you, my tolerance for anything sweet has always been limitless.”
I can handle you, his flicking of the tip of my nose says.
We’ll see about that, the answering scrunch says.
“Wait, does that mean I’ll have to hold the screen up while you screw the base to the wall?”
“Yes, but I’ll let you climb the ladder so you don’t have to over-exert yourself or anything.”
“And they say chivalry is dead.”
Installing the screen is a quick affair.
“Do we need anything else for the projector?” Levi asks to make sure he’s good to put his tools away.
“No. It’s a portable one. Guests will just be able to pop it on the future coffee table, hook their phones to it and listen to any movies or series on any app.”
“That’s very cool.”
“Right!? I just thought that it would be nice, for guests, to be able to chill out at night in front of a movie. Or even on rainy days. I know some people are against any screen time while on vacation, but I think it’s a nice way to bond with people.”
“Do you enjoy watching movies?” He zips up his tool bag.
“I am part of a film club, actually.”
“Let me guess,” he says crossing his arms, “You’re member one of two.”
“Kindly fuck off, Levi.”
“So, you love watching movies with your best friend?”
“Yes. Very much so. What about you?” He bobs his head cheerfully.
“My family would do movie nights every Friday when I was growing up.”
“Did these movie nights involve eating pizza?”
“Yeah..?”.
“How disgustingly wholesome.” My voice is laced with sarcasm, but there’s probably mud in my brown eyes. Levi looks at me pensively. Then—a glimmer in his blue gaze.
“You up for a movie night, Win? I mean, I know I’m not an official member of your club, so I don’t know if that’s even allowed…”.
“Shut up,” I say, crossing my arms loosely over my stomach, jutting my chin up. “It’s allowed.”
“Great. Ben should be here soon to pick me up. I’ll grab some snacks in town on my way back.” Levi stares at me with upturned lips. I try to keep my excitement on the down low by biting my bottom lip to keep my mouth in submission.
“Sounds good to me.”
“Text me a list of your favorite snacks.”
“Yes, sir.”
It’s late afternoon when Levi and Ben are back from their round-trip, with a couch secured in the back of Ben’s pick-up truck. I saunter out of my cottage to lend a helping hand.
“I’ll get the door,” I offer while quickly walking to the other cottage.
