Gray had been waiting for me without ever saying a single word. Probably ever since we met, and he’d recognized me as his mate.

I went to my toes and pulled him down, unable to wait even a second longer to feel his lips on mine again. To taste him again. To feel his groan vibrating against my lips.

“Nix,” he whispered, voice barely audible but filled with so much want it resonated with me more than if he’d shouted.

“Gray,” I whispered against his lips, then fused our mouths again, swallowing the moan I elicited from him. His hands grabbed my ass, lifting me up, and I wrapped my legs around him, clinging to him while he took two steps and pressed me against the closest wall.

Fuck.

He licked across my lips insistently, and it took me way too long to realize what he wanted. I opened my mouth for him, my tongue meeting his, and sparks flew. The first thrust of his tongue into my mouth sent a shockwave through my body that hit me straight in the dick.

I moaned and threw my head back. It hit the wooden wall behind me with a dull thud, but I didn’t care. I didn’t care for the bit of pain radiating off the back of my head. It wasn’t important.

The only thing that mattered was Gray. His tongue in my mouth, his hands kneading my ass, cock pushing against mine. His moans and groans and his scent. So perfect and safe and… everything.

I dug my fingers into his shoulders, pulled him even closer, his hair falling around our faces like a curtain, hiding us from the world.

“Bed?” I asked, my voice wrecked.

“You sure?” He had the audacity to pull back, to look into my eyes and check in with me.

I loved him for it, but also hated him a little because I needed his lips back on mine more than I needed oxygen.

“Yes.” I nodded to emphasize my answer. “I want you. But… uhm… I should probably mention that I kinda haven’t been with anyone. Ever.”

Gray stared at me, eyes going wide. “You’re a virgin?”

Chapter 20

Gray

How was that possible?

Nix was beauty personified.

He was stunning when you first looked at him, but his personality shone even brighter. No matter what’d been done to him, he was there when it counted. Even while being on the run from shifters, the moment he’d realized there were two shifters in need, he’d been there to help. He’d exhausted himself to the point of passing out to save the life of someone who might not have had respect for Nix’s life.

He was good. So good and beautiful and…

“Is that a problem?” His voice was small, insecure, and I couldn’t help but wrap him up in my arms some more, letting go of his ass with one hand and using that hand to press him against my chest.

“Of course not,” I answered, then pulled him back a little so he could look me in the eye and see I was telling the truth. “Your level of experience doesn’t matter to me. I just don’t understand how… I mean, it could’ve been your choice. And that’s fine.”

Nix smiled, his hand caressing my cheek, eyes sad.

“It was my choice, but… not. If that makes sense.”

I snorted. “It truly doesn’t.”

“Fair enough.” He cleared his throat. “Uh, I was the outcast in my coven, so no one there wanted me. And when I visited the packs to help them enforce their barriers…” He shuddered. “I couldn’t let anyone that close. What if…”

“What if they wanted to trick you, you mean?” I asked, and he nodded.

“Yes. I could probably have found a human in my hometown, but…” He shrugged. “With the coven constantly breathing down my neck, watching my every step, a relationship would’ve been impossible. And I didn’t want it to be just anyone, soo…”

“So you never got to have sex with anyone.”

“I never got to kiss anyone,” he clarified, and my mind blanked.
