I wanted to run after her, but the look of discomfort on Rika’s face had me worried. I didn’t like the hoe, but I also didn’t want her ass needing a longer medical stay. That was where I drew the line. She was set to be discharged soon.

“Doctors, can you have them check me out?” She looked panicked. Koi wasn’t playing fair, but I guess this is what Rika get for fucking with her.

“Sure.”

I groaned as I dreaded this moment. “You ain’t coming to my house. You better plan to stay in the projects with your mother and siblings.” I balled up my fist as I paced back and forth in Rika’s hospital room. She was being discharged after a week of being alert, and part of me hated the idea of it. On top of Koi releasing the button to her bed, Rika had a night where she felt like she couldn’t breathe. Now that she had fully been cleared, I had no choice but to get ready for the real drama.

From the day I went into her room, she had been nagging me with bullshit, and she needed to know that this wasn’t that. If it wasn’t shit she wanted for the baby, then it was her having this fake ass fantasy concocted in her head that we were gonna be a family. That was the last thing she could expect. We weren’t shit but two people who shared a child.

“Bro, she doesn’t want you. She’s gone, you might as well just settle with me,” Rika laughed, showing off that rotten tooth. I almost threw up in my mouth, looking over at her.

“Bitch, fuck you.” I yanked the bag from her hands. “Keep talking shit, and I’m going to leave your ass right here in this room.”

“Now this. How you mad at me because we had sex?”

“Easy! Because your ass trapped me. You should be lucky I didn’t tell the cops your funky ass took advantage when I was drunk.”

“Nigga, please. That dick is for everybody. You should be lucky that you only got caught up with a kid and not getting an STD from a dirty bitch.”

“Are you the dirty bitch you speak of?”

“Ahem, we can hear you guys outside of this room. You all are disturbing our patients. Hurry up and go.” The nurse stood in front of the door, giving us a lecture. “And if you don’t hurry up, I will call security.”

“All of that ain’t called for. I’m gone.” Rika was still moving as slow as molasses. I left her heading towards the elevator when I spotted a familiar face.

“Don’t make no sense. And you got nerve to be begging my friend back, but you here with that hoe.”

“Hello to you too, Marli,” Rika chuckled.

“Rika don’t get slapped back into a coma,” she snapped. “My friend can act modest, but me, I still got some hood in me,” she growled, ready to go off.

As much as I wanted to see Rika get her ass beat, I didn’t have time for the drama. I pushed Rika along. They could have their day some other time. Rika needed to get home to our son so I could go get my woman back.

If she saw that I wasn’t serious about Rika, then maybe Koi would come back home. The other day when she said she wasn’t coming home and had moved, I did some investigating. I learned she moved into a nice apartment in the city.

Jealousy seeped in. Koi wasn’t letting this breakup stop her. It was as if she put her foot on the gas and said “go,” while I was here finding random gray hairs in my head.

“You better have that same energy when your ex steps to me too. I am now your baby mama. That means I come before every bitch,” she spat with venom. It was the silly shit like this that had me kicking myself for not being smarter with my choices.

“Bitch, you wish. Take the baby that you robbed me for and leave me and mine the fuck alone.”

“That’s cute. I robbed you of sperm.” She walked slowly out of the hospital. If she was Koi, I would have had the car waiting for her, but since she wasn’t, she was gonna walk the few blocks to her building.

Immediately regretting it, Rika bitched and complained all the way across the street. Her voice was annoying me when the next thing I knew, she had dropped.

“You thought I was gonna let you live?” Koi stood over Rika with a balled up fist. Rika struggled to get up from the ground.

“Really, Koi!” She screamed out. “You couldn’t let me heal?”

“Fucking healing!” Koi knelt down punching her once more in her side.

“Argh, okay! You can have him!”

“Koi.” Her mother grabbed her just as police officers along with a small crowd formed.

“Fuck that! She wanted the nigga and the baby…well, take the ass whopping!” She tried to break free of her mother when I picked her up. Koi was always easy to pick up, even when she was on the verge of blowing up. I missed feeling her in my arms, so given the opportunity, I took advantage. “Get off of me!” She pushed and kicked her feet.

“They’re gonna take you away, Koi,” I preached to her.
