“Don’t worry about it, and don’t worry your pretty little self explaining it to him. I guess this is Mr. complicated, huh?” Marcel took a swing in Roman’s direction as he caught his fist in his hand. I didn’t know what type of fighter Roman was or what his ties to the hotel were, but he obviously meant business.
“Wow Koi. You never took me for some type of hoe, but I guess it takes one to know one, right?” Roman landed a right hook to Marcel’s face. Marcel was stunned by the hit, which sent him backward, and he lost his footing as his glasses fell to the side.
“Mr. Jones, that’s it. We don’t need this to escalate.” A guard appeared.
“How the fuck did he get in here? She didn’t let him up nor give him a key!” The way Roman barked on the security guard, I was taken aback. His anger had me conflicted. I wasn’t leaving one crazy situation to walk into the next.
“I’m not sure, but you can go and speak with Mrs. Dobson. I’ll take care of him.” Marcel was yelling out obscenities as he was carried away.
“You good?” I ignored him, shaking my head. “What?”
“The violence. Was it necessary?”
“He disrespected you.” Roman furrowed his brows. “Was I supposed to let that slide? Besides, did you invite him?”
“None of that matters, Roman. We are not a thing. We were vibing, but that’s it.” I could have kicked myself after the last statement.
“Say no more. I don’t do this shit. I got too much shit to lose behind a vibe.” Roman turned on his heels and left.
I stood in the same spot for a few minutes in silence. This was not the relaxation I was looking for. Marcel was beginning to harass me, and as much as I told myself he would get over it, his actions were starting to show otherwise.
“What the fuck?” I mumbled, unlocking my room door, closing it shut and adding the lock to it. With the mishap of the hotel, they were gonna give me a new room, and I was set on that.
Ipaced back and forth waiting for Melissa to finish up her meeting. The idea of Koi being out in danger behind her staff had me livid. She wanted me to drop it and even brushed me off, but I wasn’t letting that slide. I frequented this hotel way too much and put too much money into it to have its name tarnished. My family was well known investors, and although I was now in charge, the Jones investment meant something to me.
“Mr. Jones, I’m sorry to keep you waiting.” I stopped my stride, taking in her frazzled appearance, realizing this was probably not a good time for her, but fuck it.
“All good, I need you to come with me to the front desk or run the tapes back to show me who let this random dude come into the hotel, retrieve a key, and attack one of your guests here.” Her face became flustered. Melissa had only been the manager for a year. While in her position, too many mishaps had happened, and she was on her last leg.
“Say what now? Please do not go to the head boss about this. It was out of my control.”
“Seeing as though the young lady doesn’t want to press charges, this will be a warning to you, but the employee must be handled accordingly.”
“How do you see fit?”
“Suspension, since I’m not in the business of taking someone’s job and being happy about it.” I cleared my throat. “So how do we handle this?”
“Follow me.” By the time we made it to the concierge, I saw Koi leaning over the desk, index finger pointed at the receptionist as her voice carried. Immediately jumping into protective mode, I made a beeline to where she was.
“You gonna get your finger out my face. I’m not doing anything. You paid for that room, and that’s where you will stay.” The receptionist's nasty attitude told me all I needed to know. Melissa was on my heels.
“What is the issue?”
“And you are?” Her lip twisted, but before I could chime in, Melissa called the girl from behind the desk.
“Ashley, are you serious? She is a guest, and well, he is a very important guy who helps keep this hotel up and running, so now explain to me what the issue is.” She folded her arms over her chest. The young girl spoke just like the hood rat she was acting like.
Ashley explained how Koi came requesting a new room without a good enough reason and without wanting to pay for an upgrade. They started going back and forth until we showed up.
“Ashley, she is gonna get an upgrade and a free one because one of you messed up and somehow this could turn out to be bigger than what it is.”
“I want to know which one of you gave him the key, and if not, I will call the police.” Koi’s serious face was too cute. Her left eye twitched, and her nose flared, letting me know she was seconds from turning a shade or two redder. I touched her hand when she pulled back, cutting her eyes in my direction.
“I did, but he said-” I caught Koi as she lunged in the girl’s direction.
“Let me go, Roman. This little heffa was getting loose with the lips and was the one to give him a key! He could have killed me!” She shouted louder than me, and Melissa had expected.
Other guests were now turning in our direction. All eyes on us, Melissa closed her eyes, sighed heavily, and told the girl, Ashley, to go to her office. Instead of apologizing, the girl stomped off as if she didn’t cause all of this.
