“From every other woman I’ve ever been with.” He palmed the side of my face before kissing me.

I practically melted into the bed as he rolled and got on top of me once again. He caged me in with his arms and kissed me like I was the very air he needed to breathe.

When I felt his erection growing, I wrapped my leg around his, adjusting my hips until he slid back inside. We both moaned as Levi moved inside of me. This time, it was slow and passionate, and when we came together, I squeezed my eyes shut to keep my tears from falling.

Levi

I stared up at the ceiling, listening to Emeline’s soft breathing next to me. I closed my eyes and tried for the hundredth time to figure out what in the hell had happened. I’d never experienced sex like that before. Not with anyone, including Caroline.

No, “sex” wasn’t the word to describe what had happened between me and Emeline. It was so much more.

And I hadn’t worn a fucking condom. Twice.

I scrubbed a hand down my face and exhaled. These feelings were confusing. Not to mention, they scared the shit out of me. I wasn’t expecting to feel…so much. Yes, it was Emeline, and there’s been something there between us since I moved back to River Falls, but I’d never paid that much attention to it, assuming it was just a deep friendship.

“Fuck,” I whispered before slowly sitting up. I swung my legs off the bed and looked at my clothes on the floor.

Get up. Get dressed. And leave.

I willed myself to listen to my head, but something was keeping me rooted in the spot. A soft noise came from behind me. Glancing over my shoulder, my heart tripped as I took in the sight of Emeline sleeping. She had her hand tucked under her cheek. She looked so beautiful.

Can this really be happening? Was I even daring to think of getting into another relationship when the last one had been such an utter disaster? And it wasn’t even over.

Even now, I fought the urge to reach out and touch her. My sleeping beauty.

Facing forward, I stood and made my way across Emeline’s bedroom and into her bathroom. I quietly shut the door and turned the water on low, then splashed my face a few times. When I looked in the mirror, I saw a version of myself I hadn’t seen in a very long time. I didn’t look tired. My eyes weren’t filled with sadness.

But…was I ready to dive into a serious relationship? My therapist in Denver would most likely tell me to take things slow.

My heart was telling me that Emeline was the best thing that had ever happened to me, and I should just go with it.

Since that very first kiss, she’d been all I could think about. I’d woken up every day since, excited about two things: seeing Rhett and Emeline.

I closed my eyes and cursed to myself. When I opened them again, I shook my head.

“What the fuck do I do?”

Drawing in a deep breath, I slowly let it out and left the bathroom. The sight of Emeline in that bed suddenly made everything crystal clear to me.

Crawling onto the mattress, I softly kissed her on the forehead. She sighed and opened her eyes. When she saw me, a brilliant smile appeared on her face.

“Hey,” she whispered.

“Hey.”

“Is everything okay?” she asked, sitting up.

My eyes searched her face, and I smiled. “Everything is amazing.”

She let out a giggle when I pulled her back down and moved over. Kissing her gently, I whispered against her lips, “Perfectly amazing.”

Then I made love to her for the third time.

I woke up to the smell of bacon and coffee. It took me half a second to realize where I was. The memory of last night came flooding back, and I couldn’t help but smile. After stretching, I got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom. Emeline was clearly a neat freak because I’d never seen a bathroom so clean and organized. I hadn’t noticed it late last night during my mini panic attack.

After using the restroom, I splashed my face with cold water and washed my hands.

“Levi?”
