Tudor nodded. “Okay.” He suddenly grinned. “I don’t need to read that USB tonight then.”

Alex and Dane laughed, and Donovan just shook his head.

CHAPTER 7

Blake, Baylan and Maddy were sat by the river having a picnic supplied by Baylan – all perfect finger food. They had fun with the water pistols getting thoroughly soaked and enjoying every minute of the game.

Blake was lying on the grass, one arm behind his head, looking up into the clear blue sky. Maddy was leaning against Baylan. “My mum and Dad would have liked it here,” she said softly.

Baylan slipped his arm around her shoulders. “I’m sure they would have.”

Blake sat up and crossed his legs, looking at her.

“I’m glad Gramps made you both my dad’s.”

“We are too, sweetie. You know if you want to talk about your family, you can,” Blake told her.

Maddy nodded and sniffed. “Would we be able to go back to my house soon, then I can get some more of my things?”

“We can do that,” Baylan said. “How about tomorrow?”

“Thank you.”

“We need to look and see if your parents made a will. Then we can look at sorting out their estate,” Blake said.

“I think they did have one. All their important papers and things were kept in the safe,” Maddy told them. “I don’t understand why a white unicorn would make killers come to our house.”

“I don’t know why, sweetie, but we can find out,” Blake said.

“Thank you,” she said softly.

Blake looked at Baylan. “Maybe you and Alex could do your thing and find out.”

Baylan nodded. “We have a lot of contacts. Leave that with us.”

“Thanks,” Blake said.

“Yeah, thanks, Baylan,” Maddie said.

Blake looked at Maddie; the happiness of earlier had gone from her eyes. That would never do. “Hey, Maddie?”

Maddie looked at him.

“How do you fancy trying to drown Bay”?

Maddie laughed, and Baylan looked at them.

“Hey,” he exclaimed.

Maddie jumped up, saying, “Come on, Baylan, this will be fun.”

Blake stood up as well. “Yeah, Bay, this will be fun.”

“For whom?”

“You,” they both said.

“You have to catch me first,” Baylan said, standing up and shifting into his unicorn, then cantered off.
