“He’s got cancer?” I whispered. Razor looked thin and pale.
“Razor’s in remission.”
“That’s good.” I watched as the brothers I knew greeted their guests. Soon there were people everywhere, and I became overwhelmed. Curious glances were cast my way, and panic started to rise.
“Mom, I’ve got Myka,” Nova said with an understanding glance. She wheeled me away quickly and out to the rear yard where the kids were. On seeing Jayes, some of my alarm eased.
“Okay, now?” Nova asked with a small smile.
“That was just too many strangers.”
“I get it. I grew up with them, but at first, it was terrifying. They all wanted to be our uncles and literally drowned us in affection. They’re good folk, but don’t piss them off.” Nova smiled.
“Falcon has spoken about them, and what happened with your parents and you. It’s too much.”
“Honestly, I understand. They’re loud and noisy, and freaking insane half the time. But they’ll love you because Falcon does.”
“Oh, no! Falcon’s not said anything…”
“Myka. Falcon is my twin. I can feel his emotions. He’s going slowly because he doesn’t want to scare you. Falcon understands what you’ve suffered and won’t do anything to jeopardise your recovery. Which is funny because Falcon can be the most impatient person alive sometimes,” Nova stated, amused.
“But his training and everything.”
“Oh, around that Falcon has limitless patience. He knows rushing his healing will end one or both of his careers. But outside of swimming and Ju-Jitsu, nope, Falcon is a nightmare. You’ve calmed him.”
“That’s a good thing, right?” I asked, unsure.
“Yes. Here comes trouble.”
The guy walking over was as sexy as hell and knew it. From his cocky smile to his messy hair and his super-fit body, he was a woman’s wet dream.
“Hey, gorgeous,” he said, dropping a kiss on Nova’s head.
“Inglorious, you look well.”
“Nanci kicked my butt into gear.” Inglorious grinned, his gaze searching the crowd and then resting on his old lady. Inglorious turned. “Used to be, I’d flirt with any beautiful woman and try to steal them away. Now Nanci would beat my ass, but I can still say, ‘hi gorgeous’.”
I laughed at the guileless look in his eyes.
“Don’t listen to him. Inglorious can’t help himself. I’m Nanci,” she said, approaching. They exchanged a look of love, and it warmed my heart.
“Myka,” I said, offering my good hand.
“She’s Falcon’s,” Nova stated.
Inglorious and Nanci turned to stare with huge smiles. “Is that so?”
“Yes,” Nova answered for me. Inglorious checked me over, his smile fading.
“The kid better have beaten the shit out of your attacker,” he growled.
“Her asshole ex is on the run. We’ll find him,” Nova promised.
“Pres, stop hogging the beautiful ladies.” Another brother, Chill, appeared.
“She’s Falcon’s,” Inglorious said and smirked.
“Are you fuckin’ kidding? First Rage’s National Chapter takes all the available women, and now Ortonville is doing the same? I’m gonna beat someone’s ass,” Chill declared with an exaggerated pout.
