“Come, Tre.”

She tilts her head back against my shoulder as she squeezes my dick again.

“I am! Come too!”

I bounce her on my cock twice more before I release my cum into the woman who’ll soon be my wife.

I can barely keep my eyes open now, and Tre’s breathing deeply next to me. Both of us are exhausted from all the rounds of sex we just had. We skipped lunch and feasted on one another. The sleep will do her good. I ease my way out of bed and grab a pair of pajama pants before stepping out of the room.

I head down to the kitchen where I can hear anybody who comes home as well as if Tre moves around upstairs. I call my Tío and then make it a conference call since none of my cousins or brothers are at his house right now. I want to know who planted the seed with Francesco that there might be any disloyalty here and that Salvatore might not fully back him. He couldn’t have come up with this on his own.

I have a few questions I want to mull over with my family.

“Was it one of the bratva since they didn’t support them during the turf war? Maybe they’re pretending as though they’re making amends. Or do you think it could be the Kutsenkos trying to get in a couple last digs since the proxy war is supposed to be over?”

“It could be the Irish just as easily.” It’s Pablo who speaks up.

“I don’t know about that, but do you think they could be up to their old shenanigans? Could they be all right with allowing women to get injured?” Jorge’s alternative is possible, but I don’t think it’s probable.

“I really don’t believe that’s the case.” Tío Enrique takes the words right out of my mouth.

Before I can say as much, Alejandro chimes in. “No way. They’re all married now. If any of our wives turned up injured, then their wives would find out. They’d question their husbands. As much as the men may not care about the women in the other families, none of us wants to admit to our wives—or even worse, lie to our wives— about whether someone injured a wife from another family.”

Tío Enrique begs a question I’ve been ruminating on too. “Could Salvatore somehow be doing this to manipulate all the Italian factions and frame us or the Boston Cosa Nostra?”

I think I may have an answer—that leads to more questions.

“Anything’s possible at this point, Tío, but why would Salvatore agree to a sit-down with me all the way up here if he was responsible for it? If he talked his way out of a meeting, we would suspect him even more. So why didn’t he suggest meeting with you in New York? Coming all the way up here seems like a lot of inconvenience just to manipulate me when he could attempt that in New York.”

Javier joins the conversation. “I think you’re going to have some work ahead of you. You need to dig even deeper into everyone than we have. Put those expensive hacking skills to use.”

Undergrad at MIT and grad school at Harvard weren’t cheap. Our parents all paid for our undergrad degrees, but each of us was on our own for grad school.

“I will. I’ll go as deep into their emails and call records as I can. I’ll look at the files saved on their clouds as well as anything in their computers. I’ll look particularly for contracts.”

“Sounds good. Keep us posted.”

Tío Enrique wraps up the call, and I slip back upstairs. Tre only gets another hour to nap before her parents are home, and we help make dinner.

“Are you going to get any sleep tonight, Daddy?”

“I’ll try, chica, but there’s stuff I need to get done tonight.”

“All right. Are you going to work here?”

“Yes. It’s easier than being in another part of the house. I don’t want your parents questioning what I’m working on or why I’m moving around their home in the middle of the night.”

I don’t want to get shot.

“Okay.”

Tre rolls away from me and shuffles her pillow until she’s comfortable. I haven’t opened my laptop yet, which sits on the bedside table. I curl around Tre, happily spooning her, kissing her bare shoulder. I look forward to being back in New York, either at her place or mine. Preferably our place where she can sleep completely naked. Right now, she has on a tank top and sleep shorts.

I rest my hand over her belly, which is now our favorite way to fall asleep. Tonight, she overlaps her hand with mine, and we interlock our fingers.

“Joaco, I’m sure you have work you need to get back to in New York. Thank you for staying with me right now. I’m glad to have my parents and you around. I know the only one who’s enjoying that is me, but it means the world to me.”

“Chiquita, I’ll do anything that makes you feel comfortable and safe. If that means staying with your parents, then I’m more than happy to oblige.”
