“You are a hazard,” Cole gritted out.
Akai sucked harder, his fingers moving over the shaft.
“Fuck.” Cole went still as he came, his hand still on Akai’s head like a comforting weight, not enough to hold him in place. “An absolute monster.”
Akai lifted his head and licked his lip. “You noticed that about me?”
Cole stared at him. “That’s not…” He sighed. “It’s hard to miss. But you’re also a menace.”
Akai grinned. “You’re full of compliments. Now can we eat before it gets cold?”
“Yeah.” Cole went to kiss him, but Akai pulled back.
“There is someone staring at you, and since you wouldn’t kiss your dog…” He laughed and slithered back to the back seat.
Cole muttered a curse and did up his jeans before getting out of the truck. “Damn dog.” He dusted off his jeans, then opened the door for Akai to jump out on all fours.
He sat next to Cole like he was well-trained and definitely not a dangerous wolf.
The man walking toward his car paused, his gaze dropping to Akai.
Cole reached into the truck and grabbed the bag of burgers. “He’s an absolute burger fiend.”
“He’s the biggest dog I’ve ever seen. Is he part bear?” the man asked, keeping a wide berth.
Akai rolled his eyes at the stupidity of the comment. How were bears related to dogs?
“Nah, part wolf, we think.” He nodded to Akai. “Come on. I got you a burger.”
“Only one?” The man laughed.
“He shouldn’t be eating them, so yeah, only one. Hopefully, it will distract him for long enough that I can eat.”
If Cole was worried about sex in public, Akai would keep his hands, and tongue, to himself outside of the vehicle. Inside was another matter.
CHAPTER THIRTY
They made it to the motel in one piece despite Akai blowing him while he was driving on the freeway. Cole was torn between annoyance and lust. The drive had been interesting. He’d learned more about Akai’s family and the solstice gathering, but he’d also experienced the looks he got being seen with what other humans saw as an oversized and potentially dangerous dog. Because he knew what he was looking at, he saw Akai on all fours, and it seemed ridiculous that he had ever mistaken Akai for a wolf.
If hiding in plain sight bothered Akai, he didn’t show it.
Cole dropped his bag on the floor of the motel room and went back to the truck to grab Akai’s bag of gold and gems. They had arrived after dark, and he’d checked in while Akai remained hidden in the truck. While the door was open, Akai slid out and crouched between the truck and a car, ready to follow him to the room.
Cole locked the truck and walked the couple of yards to the motel room door. As he put the key in the door, a light flared over the office. He turned even though he knew it was the distraction Akai had talked about.
“Open the door,” Akai hissed as he pressed against the door, making Cole’s shadow look much larger than it should have been.
He blinked and opened the door, and Akai tumbled inside, pulling Cole with him. They didn’t get very far as Akai pushed him against the door and kissed him, sliding his tongue into his mouth like Cole was the air he was gasping to breathe. Cole dropped the bag and melted against the door, unwilling to even try to escape.
Even though he didn’t see how they could ever be together, he didn’t want to walk away either. He wanted everything before it all fell apart because he needed to return to his life. This was an unscheduled break that neither of them had expected.
“I have been waiting all day to do that.” Akai’s hand slid under Cole’s shirt.
“Mmm.” He lifted his arms so Akai could pull the shirt off, then cupped Akai’s face, the gray hair silky against his skin. Akai had been waiting all day for more than a kiss.
His fingers worked open Cole’s jeans and pushed them down with his briefs.
“Let me get my shoes off.” But he didn’t get the chance to take them off as Akai lifted him and dropped him on the bed. His legs were still trapped by his jeans, feet in the air as Akai’s dick thrust between his thighs.
