Was the roof being peeled off the car? That wasn’t possible. Before losing my life, I was in the process of losing my mind. How perfect. I laughed again, even as tears continued to fall.

Another sound but this time, one that should turn my blood to ice. A deep, husky, and very animalistic growl.

What. The. Fuck?

Now in full panic mode, I blinked several times with the tears still stinging my eyes. Yes, I could definitely see more light. And how did I know? Because rain was pelting against my face when it hadn’t been before.

“Help,” I pleaded weakly. At least I had the strength to claw at the leaves in my mouth and twigs collapsing on my face.

When they were ripped from my face along with the entire massive tree, pitched aside as if nothing but a twig, I settled in waiting to die. Then something truly magical happened.

A face peered at me from above. With rain still pouring down, I was forced to blink profusely just to try to determine what I was seeing.

The creature who’d jumped on what was left of the wreckage was almost a wolf. Maybe? But also human. Maybe? I honestly couldn’t tell, but it was apparent I had a concussion because I was definitely seeing things that couldn’t possibly be there.

Monsters rescuing people in the middle of a storm. What were the odds?

Yet the more I blinked, the more I concentrated on the creature’s eyes. They were the same intense blue that had attracted me to Beck in the first place. Only Beck wasn’t here, my mind playing tricks on me.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any weirder, I was suddenly scooped off the seat and into some seriously powerful arms. At least I thought they were arms. Yes, they were. As soon as my fingers touched the beast’s muscles, I was certain.

Or was I in the throes of madness?

The wolflike man peered down at me, nodding once before cradling me against the warmth of his chest. In the next minute or so, I marveled in his scent, rich in testosterone and sandalwood while feeling perfectly fine with nuzzling against his furry chest. As I finally started to relax, even dozing off, I could swear I heard him calling out my name.

* * *

“So you’re a werewolf?” When I asked him the question, he seemed amused.

“Not a werewolf. A shifter. Big difference.”

“But you become a wolf every full moon cycle. Right?”

He laughed. “Uh, no. A myth. Do you know the first werewolf story was created in ancient Greece with the legend of King Lycaon of Arcadia? He served human flesh to Zeus to test the god’s omniscience. In turn and as punishment, Zeus turned the king into a wolf, which inspired the term lycanthropy.”

“Fascinating. So you eat people.”

He took my hand into his and I guess I was a danger junkie because I didn’t pull away. However, when he brought my fingers to his mouth, even sucking on them, I did come close to experiencing an orgasm. Even to the point of squirming in my seat. The beast incarnate even bit my index finger, growling as he did.

“Very funny,” I told him. “But do you eat people?”

With a wink, he pulled my fingers free with a loud pop. “With a nice bottle of chianti and some fava beans. No, we don’t eat people.”

“But you have forests sectioned off for you and your barbeque-loving buddies so you can play and frolic in the trees, finishing off your day with a spit roast and a beer after your hunt. Right?”

His sigh was heavy. “Okay, so once upon a time, we used to hunt for our food. Rabbits. Deer. Sometimes elk.”

“That doesn’t sound like the start to a traditional fairytale.”

“You’re the most frustrating woman I’ve ever met.”

“Does that mean you want to… eat me?” I looked down, noticing his cock was fully erect. After dragging my tongue across my bottom lip, I finally lifted my gaze to meet his.

“Baby. I thought you’d never ask.” Smiling, he cracked his neck from one side to the other just before the entire room seemed to vibrate.

Now came the good part.

His transformation.
