Chanel walked out without looking back, slamming the front door behind her. The room was quiet, except for the babbling coming from Kyrah, and Talia’s sobs. I stood there rubbing my jaw, trying to process everything that had just happened.
There wasn't any fixing this. Chanel knew, which meant our secret wasn't just ours anymore. It wasn't a matter of if Kaior found out. It was a matter of when.
I had spent months convincing myself I could keep both parts of my life separate, but that lie had finally caught up with me.
The damage was done, and I knew I was about to lose Kaior for good.
I was standing in front of my mirror, finishing up my makeup before heading out to meet Todd, when my bedroom door flew open without so much as a knock.
"Chanel, what the hell?"
"You are not gonna believe what I just found out."
I put my lip gloss down on the dresser before turning to face her. "What?"
"Talia and Kyrie been fucking. And Kyrah is his baby."
I stared at her for a second, waiting for the punchline. But one never came. "I know you fucking lying."
"I'm not lying."
"How do you even know that?"
"I was just over there." She sat down on my bed. "This nigga came in with a key, Armani. A key. And I asked her straight up if he was her baby daddy, and all she could say was it's complicated."
"Oh my God. Kaior is gonna lose it."
"I'm telling her."
"Not before I do." I was already reaching for my phone and dialing Kaior's number. My heart was pounding hard in my chest while it rang once before going straight to voicemail.
"Her phone must be dead."
"Try again."
"It's going straight to voicemail, Chanel."
I typed out a quick text instead, my thumbs moving fast, trying to figure out how to say something like this without it sounding like a joke.
I hit send and tossed my phone into my purse, grabbing my keys off the dresser.
"I gotta go meet Todd. But if you talk to her before I do, tell her to call me immediately."
"Okay."
I looked at Chanel one more time, still trying to wrap my head around everything she just told me, before heading out the door. My mind wouldn't stop racing and that made the drive to Todd's place feel longer than usual. Every red light gave me another chance to replay Every red light gave me another chance to replay Chanel's words in my head: Kyrie, Talia, and a whole damn baby.
All this time, this nigga been standing in my mama's house, sitting at our dinner table, laughing in my sister's face, knowing he betrayed her with somebody we treated like our own little sister.
"I'ma fuck his ass up," I said through gritted teeth. "Playing in my sister's face like she was a damn fool."
By the time I pulled into Todd's driveway, I had worked myself up so much that I sat in the car for a minute, forcing myself to calm down before getting out. None of this had anything to do with Todd, and I refused to let Kyrie's mess follow me to his front door. He opened the door before I even knocked.
"Hey, you good?" He asked.
"Long story."
"You want a drink?"
