Before I could answer, Hulk's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, answered, and listened without saying much. "Yeah." A pause. "I'll handle it." He hung up and slipped the phone back into his pocket.

Poncho let out a low whistle. "Whoever that was better find that money."

"They will," Hulk said with a shrug.

I smiled into my coffee. Fear was a hell of a collection agency. A second later my phone buzzed. It was one of my distributors. I answered. "Talk."

"Boss, we got a problem."

"What?"

"One of the runners got hit."

"How much?"

"Eighteen thousand."

I leaned back in my chair. "How much did we clear this week?"

There was a pause. "Around six-forty."

"So let me understand. You calling me ready to start a war over less than three percent of what we made?"

He remained silent.

"Find out who did it."

"Yes, sir."

"If they hungry, feed 'em. If they greedy handle 'em."

"I’m on it."

The call ended.

Poncho shook his head. "I don't know how you stay so damn calm."

"Because emotional decisions cost money." I looked between both of them. "And while we're talking, if anybody wearing my name can't follow simple rules, they don't work for me anymore. Cancel the business and put 'em in the dirt. Nobody touches women, kids, churches or schools. If somebody has a problem with any of that, they can find another plug."

My phone rang again. It was a private number, so I answered immediately. "Yeah."

"I got her."

This call made my day a little brighter. "Let's hear it."

"Kaior Bennett." He spelled her last name before giving me her birthday. "Dental assistant."

"She gives healthcare vibes."

"Clean background."

"I figured."

"You want her home address?"

"Nah."

"The work address?"
