How dare he say that to me?!

Honestly, if the perks of getting this training under my belt weren’t so good, aka a pay increase, I’d pack up my bags and head home.

To Mark.

Well, not really to Mark. We barely message one another, and it’s clear the relationship is coming to a natural end. However, out of spite toward Noah (who will never know either way) I Facetimed Mark this morning.

He answered. “Hey.”

Very uninspiring response, but whatever.

“Good morning, boyfriend.” I grinned, making sure I showed a lot of skin.

He yawned. “What’s happening?”

My God, I’m half-naked, Mark. React!

“I’m starting training today and will be busy, so wanted to call and see your face.”

I wanted to rebel against Noah’s bossiness, more like it.

Mark rubbed his eyes. “Yeah, I know you’re doing that. You told me.”

For the love of...

“So, I just wanted to see you.” I moved the camera to show more of my breasts.

Get the damn hint, Mark.

“Okay.” Another yawn. “Can we talk tonight, Quinn? I must get in the shower for an early management meeting at eight.”

Really?

I was almost showing him a nipple.

“Sure.” I nodded, tugging up my camisole. “Not tonight, probably in a few days.”

“Cool. See ya.”

The hell?

“See ya. Whatever,” I muttered, hanging up and throwing the sheets back. Grumbling, I’d stomped into the bathroom.

I hated how complacent he was about our relationship. It’s not like we’d passed the honeymoon period and said I love you and were now this comfortable couple.

Mark doesn’t seem to have a lot of passion at all, really, but he was okay in bed.

What did I actually see in him?

Safety.

He wasn’t a threat to my reputation, wasn’t involved in the military, and didn’t make anyone question if he was helping me get a step up. No uniform. No rank.

Just a boring civilian.

What’s his name?

Mark.
