Levi: You had quinoa anyway, so stop complaining. Andrei, how is Paris?

Jess: DID YOU PROPOSE YET?

Jess’s text made me choke, and my gasp for air caught Miles’s attention.

“What’s the matter?” He chuckled as he came to sit behind me and peeked over my shoulder. “Oh! I see.” He laughed.

“Yeah, I think Jess has the wrong impression,” I said before I noticed how Miles eyed me. “W-what?” I asked nervously as I felt my throat go dry.

“You mean to say you’re not going to propose? But we’re in Paris!” His smile slipped, and I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders. Not that I didn’t want to marry him. I just didn’t want to marry anyone. Yet.

By the time I looked back at my phone, the chat was filled with new texts.

Diesel: yeah, right. I bet that pussy will make him get on one knee for him.

*Chief removed Diesel from the chat*

Chief: that will teach him how to behave.

Levi: As if.

Jess: That was a shitty thing to do, Chief. Fuck you very much.

Levi: @Chica, ignore him. Diesel stole Jessie’s phone.

Jess: Fuck you, shorty.

Levi: *Eye roll emoji*

“Why do they call you Chica?” Miles asked as he read the conversation with me, laughing.

“When I was young, I used to look like a girl, so Diesel teased me by calling me Chica, and it stuck.”

He narrowed his eyes at me. “You?” He paused dramatically. “You used to look like a girl?”

I flexed my biceps and wiggled my eyebrow at him. “Don’t let these bulging muscles and handsome face confuse you, baby.” That joke cost me a pillow to the head. Laughing, I turned around and grabbed his hips, pushing him on his back with me on top.

“You don’t like my bulging muscles?” I teased as he bit back a laugh.

“Never said I didn’t.”

Even with the eye pads stuck to his skin, Miles looked gorgeous. His pouty pink lips looked like an invitation and I was about to dive in and take what was mine when an alarm came from his phone.

“It’s time for step seven.” He wiggled his phone in my face.

I dropped my head with a whine. “Seven?” I complained.

“Mhmm-hmm,” he hummed, and I had to bite my fist so I wouldn’t do that to his adorable face.

My chest was tight with emotions I was still new to, and while my instinct told me I should slow down, Chief’s words echoed in my mind. Nothing is too soon.

I slumped down beside him and grabbed my phone. I snapped a selfie of the two of us snuggled together, still with the golden eye pads and animal headbands, and pressed send.

Me: Getting ready for our last evening here. Talk to you later.

I didn’t wait for their replies. Instead, I closed my phone and tossed it on the bed. Everything can wait. Right now, I was with Miles.
