“I feel like I’m doing something wrong,” I admitted as soon as Chief parked his truck in front of LAX. All I could think about during the ride here were Jess’s insecurities and Diesel’s anger. Even Levi seemed to be unsure about me going away. Also, wasn’t it too soon to go on vacation with a guy I’d been dating for only a month? I mean, I was crazy about Miles, but I wasn’t an idiot. I knew we were moving way too fast.
Chief palmed the back of my neck with his hand. The rough touch of his skin was comforting.
“You’re not doing anything wrong, kid.” His words were as unruffled as always. “You’re going to have so much fun.”
I turned to look at him.
“What if I won’t?” My question made him laugh, and I gave him an insulted look. “What’s so funny?”
He shook his head before he leaned back in his seat. “You’re going to spend a weekend in Paris with a guy you like, and you’re afraid you won’t have fun?” Well, when he put it like that.
“Isn’t it a bit too soon?” I understood Miles and I only knew each other for a short while, but I already felt like I’d known him for years. We spent hours talking on the phone every night, and during the day, we texted whenever we could. At school, I’d walk him to his class, and later on, we’d have lunch together. Whenever I was next to him, time flew by and no matter how long we spent talking, it was never really enough. Not even close.
“Life is too short for too soon,” he said with his deep green eyes set on me. “Trust me on that, Andrei.” He took a deep breath before he looked away and bore his eyes at the car parked in front of us.
“It will always be too soon, too little, too much, too something, and before you know it, it will be too late.” His hand gripped the steering wheel harder, and the muscle in his jaw tensed. “Regrets are man’s worst enemy.” Sadness tinged his voice, and I wanted to ask what was his too late, but it wasn’t the time or the place. As much of an open and laid-back guy Ashton Sage was, he still remained an unsolved riddle.
“Avoid the too late, Andrei.” He finally looked back at me with a crooked grin that made me chuckle.
“How are you so smart?”
It was his turn to laugh. “I’ve just made a lot of mistakes.” He moved his hand from my neck and put it on the gearbox. “Come on, kid, go have fun in Paris.”
Smiling, I unbuckled myself and moved to get out of the truck. With my hand on the handle, I stopped. “What about the guys?”
“Don’t worry about them. I’m taking them all camping.”
My brows shot to my hair. My guys, camping, as in the woods? In what world would that work?
“Are you sure about that?” I eyed him with worry. “I mean, you met Diesel. Can you imagine him in a tent?”
“Some fresh air will do him good.”
I shook my head as I opened the door and got out. With my suitcase in my hand, I leaned through the open window. “Just make sure he doesn’t stab anyone with the tent’s peg.”
He gave me a dirty look. “Don’t even joke about it. Now go have fun and be safe.”
“I will.” I saluted him goodbye with two fingers before turning around.
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” I heard him shouting, and I gave him one look over my shoulder to find him smiling like a jackass. I’d miss him. I’d miss all of them, even if it was just for one weekend.
Chapter 16
Andrei
Being here was unreal. Being here with him was surreal.
The streets of Paris were like nothing I’d ever seen before. From the structures to the people, all covered with glamorous style. I swore to God, even the buildings here looked as if they were dressed in tailored clothes. It was an odd combination of modern history. So much culture was celebrated together—art, architecture, food, fashion, and people.
As soon as we landed, Miles took me around for some sightseeing before he took us to their house near the Champs de Mars. The Eiffel tower was a breath away from the 7th arrondissement aristocratic building. I had little to no time to admire the lavish apartment before Miles dragged us back out.
Between fashion productions and after-parties, we visited the Louvre where I saw the Mona Lisa. The famous masterpiece was gorgeous but my favorite painting was one of Caravaggio’s. After visiting the Louvre, we ate the best croissant I had ever tasted and did some shopping in the Champs-Élysées.
Right now, I was lying on my back with Miles on top of me, not for that reason. Since we got here two days ago, we’d only exchanged blow jobs and hand jobs. I was okay with whatever Miles was comfortable with, and I had no plan of rushing him into anything he wasn’t ready for.
As we prepared for our last night in Paris, Miles gave me a facial. Again, not that kind. He had some crazy eight-step skincare routine he did every single day, and tonight he decided we needed to do it together.
My hair was pushed back with one of those cute towel headbands that have animal ears. Mine had kitten ears, while Miles looked adorable with his bunny ears.
