“Yeah.” Jess nodded before he glanced Jordan’s way. “What about Jordy?”
“We’ll get him,” Levi said before he looked my way. “Andrei.”
I already knew what he wanted to say. Go after them. Make sure Diesel doesn’t kill him.
“I know.” I nodded and got up on two shaky legs. “Get out of here.”
They both peeled themselves off the floor and went over to Jordy as I made my way toward where Diesel and Shay-Lee had run off too. I stopped by Shay-Lee’s guys on my way out of the gym. They were beat up, badly, but alive. Thank fucking God.
With a broken nose and bruised body, I tried to make my way down the halls. Looking for them wasn’t easy and it took me a couple of minutes before I heard them again. And what I heard didn’t ease my mind.
Shay-Lee’s voice continued to dance around the empty halls until it slowly died and was replaced with a weak choking sound. I rounded the corner and got to what used to be the library, only now it was a graveyard for burned books and forgotten documents.
In the middle of the room, Shay-Lee was plastered on his back in what seemed to be a dark black spot. If I recalled correctly, the library was where the fire first started, and it seemed that this black spot was the mark of where it all began.
On top of him, and with his arms clenched around his throat and choking the life out of him, was Diesel.
From where I stood, it looked more like they were kissing, but I knew better. Once I got closer, I got the impression Diesel was whispering something in Shay-Lee’s ear.
Shay-Lee’s body went still before I reached them, and by the time I dropped to my knees beside his limp body, Diesel’s hands were off him.
“Fuck, Diesel,” I gasped while Diesel remained silent and got up.
“Is he…” I moved my fingers down Shay-Lee’s exposed neck and searched for a pulse. I breathed in relief when I found it.
My stomach then rolled, and I moved my head and poured out my guts until nothing was left inside of me.
I was terror-struck that he’d just killed him.
“Holy fuck, man. You scared me for a moment.” I panted as I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. “I thought you killed him.”
He grunted in response.
“How did you know where to find us?” I asked once I came back to my senses.
“Levi texted me your location,” he said with his eyes locked on the guy lying on the floor.
“What did you tell him?” I asked, curious.
“Nothing,” he simply said before he glanced away and turned to leave the room.
It took me a couple more minutes before I managed to stand up, and I only left the library after making sure Shay-Lee was indeed alive. When I returned to the gym, the motorcycle, and Diesel, were gone.
I found Jess and Levi by the car and helped them carry Jordy inside and laid him on the back seat with his head resting on Jess’s lap.
“We need to get him to the hospital,” Jess said quietly, his finger softly moving over Jordy’s injured skin. “Fast.”
Levi clenched the wheel tighter as I nodded my agreement. We all needed to see a doctor.
On our way to the hospital, I called Chief and told him to meet us there, promising to explain everything later. After ending the call, I tried to reach Diesel.
Several missed calls later, I texted him, asking him where he was.
When morning came, we were all patched up. Jordy still needed to stay in the hospital for a few more days, but the rest of us were free to go. We were waiting by the car for Chief, who was talking to Jordy’s mom, when my phone rang. I was surprised, to say the least, when the name popping on my screen was Daniel Williams Dufort.
I swiped right to take the call and pressed the phone to my ear.
“Hello?”
