Chapter 32

Miles

By the time I woke up, it was already getting dark outside. I probably slept through the day.

“You’re up?”

I turned around to find Shay-Lee on the bed beside me, and it took me a moment to remember why he was there.

“Where’s Papa?”

“He went to pick up Daniel from the airport. He just called, saying they’ll be late because there was a delay.”

I reached for my phone, which was charging beside the bed, to see if Andrei had tried to call me while I was asleep, but there were no new calls or messages.

“Hey, why don’t you shower, and we’ll grab something to eat?” Shay-Lee suggested, his hand resting on my hip.

“I’m not hungry,” I said and then looked at his hand. “Can you not touch me?”

He lifted his hand quickly and used it to brush his hair away from his face. “So let’s go on a drive instead.”

“I can’t.” I dropped my phone and lay back down. “I need to be here.”

“Why?”

“If Andrei comes. I need to be here.”

“Oh, please,” Shay-Lee sneered, sounding like a petulant child. “The guy is a complete loser who doesn’t give a shit about you.”

“He’s not a loser, and he just needs time,” I explained with a sigh. “He’s probably not so mad anymore.”

“He sure didn’t look like it.”

I opened my eyes and jumped from the bed. “What?”

Shay-Lee shrugged and looked the other way.

“What did you mean by that?” I urged him to speak. I needed to know.

“For fuck’s sake.” Shay-Lee rolled his eyes. “The idiot came by while you were sleeping.”

“Andrei, he came back here? And I was asleep?” I got up from the bed, Shay-Lee following me around.

“Hey, Miley.”

“What did he say?” I asked, looking around the room for something. Fuck, what was it that I wanted to grab?

“Miley, sit down. You’re going around in circles.” He touched my arms, but I pushed him away.

“I told you not to touch me.”

“You’re right. You did. Now sit down.” He tried to lead me back to the bed, but I didn’t move. Andrei was here, and he didn’t wake me up. What was he doing here? Why did he come? Did he love me again?

“Why didn’t you wake me up?” I snapped.

“I didn’t wake you up because he came to say it’s over between the two of you.”

“He did?” I asked, my eyes on Shay-Lee, who was standing in front of the door, blocking the way out.
