Yooper shakes his head. “I don’t know how, but I forgot about them opening up.”

“You’ve been a little busy,” Poutine points out.

Sap nods. “I got the notification and forgot about it as well. No judgment.”

“Are you sure they would do it though? They don’t owe us anything.” I say, trying to keep us on track.

“They might not owe us, but it’s always good to build a rapport between neighbors. If they do this, that means we are more likely to help them in the future,” Predator says.

Yooper nods. “And with them being a baby club, that means they are more than likely going to need an assist before too long.”

“Exactly.” Predator nods.

Leaning back against the counter, I think about it. It makes sense. They are Kings, close by, and have no ties with our club. They would be the perfect distraction and a way for us to keep everything in-house.

Well, almost everything.

“Are we sure they are clean? No ties to Aragon?” I ask.

Predator nods. “I’ve kept tabs on them, but from what I can tell, they’ve never had a run-in with him.”

“I know no one asked for my opinion, but I say fuck it. Let’s do it. What’s the worst thing that could happen?” Poutine says.

Sap reaches over and slaps the back of his head. “Never ever say that out loud again. That’s a surefire way to jinx us.”

“Ow,” Poutine whines.

Rightness settles into my bones. This is it. Somehow, I know that this will be the end of Aragon’s rebellion. We just need to play it smart and not let him know we are on to him.

Easier said than done.

CHAPTER

TWENTY-THREE

Julie

The house is silent, but my mind won’t calm down.

Usually this is when I would take a sleeping pill, but after tonight, I will never take one again. There is no way I can let myself lose control like that.

I’m scared to death that Aragon will find a way to get back in here again.

It took forever to get my father to agree to go home. Honestly, he wanted me to go with him, but I know Yak will come to me. So I promised I was fine and sent him on his way.

Yak hasn’t shown up yet, though. I thought he would be watching the cameras. That he would know Dad was gone. It makes me wonder if Dad has someone camping outside my house. I wouldn’t put it past him.

He did say he would put someone on patrol, but would he park someone outside my front door? Honestly, he would. I don’t know how Yak would get inside if that’s the case.

I could call Yak and tell him to come, but I am trying like heck not to come off as clingy.

I stare at the ceiling, my hand firmly around the hammer I found in my closet. It was the closest thing to a weapon I have. I considered a knife but figured if I fell asleep, I might cut myself.

I shouldn’t have worried, though. Sleep is not coming.

Tabby is somewhere curled up, I’m sure. She left a while ago when I wouldn’t stop fidgeting.

I hear a key in the front door. My breathing picks up. I know it’s one of three people, but it doesn’t help my anxiety.
