I shove my phone into my pocket right as I make it to my room. I let myself in and find Julie sitting on my bed, with the sheet covering her waist and her phone in her hand.
“Hey, everything okay?” she asks quietly as I shut the door behind me.
“Yeah, but I have to run out for a bit, and I don’t have time to take you home first.”
“I can ask Liz to come get me.”
I shake my head. “No, I need you to hang out here. I know it won’t be fun, but I need to know you’re somewhere safe.”
“Is everything okay?” she asks, nibbling on her lip.
I place my hand on her leg and squeeze it. “Everything is fine. But here Sap and Poutine will be able to keep an eye on you. I don’t trust Aragon, and I’d rather keep you close for now.”
She nods slowly. “Okay, I can do that.”
“Thank you.”
“When do you have to go?” she asks quietly.
I wince. “Now, unfortunately. I’m sorry to leave you wet and needy, but I promise you I’ll make it up to you later.”
Her cheeks flush. “Must you be so brash?”
“You love it, and trust me when I say you haven’t seen anything yet, Angel,” I tease.
She rolls her eyes and leans forward, pressing her lips softly against mine.
“Be safe,” she says when she pulls away.
“Always. Text me if you need anything, and remember, Yooper, Poutine, and Sap are all safe. No one else.”
“I know. Now get out of here so you can hurry back.”
“Yes, ma’am.” I smirk as I stand.
I stare down at her for a second, looking like a pretty picture in my bed, and wish I could stay here and not go anywhere, but that’s not how this works.
“You better be safe, Yak,” she says as I walk toward the door.
“Always,” I tell her as I slip out.
As I walk down the hall, I can’t help but smile. As fucked up as this whole situation is, I like that she’s worried about me. I’ve never had someone care like she does, and I fucking love it.
CHAPTER
FIFTEEN
Julie
Blowing out a deep breath, I pace his room.
I’m bored.
I’m not used to being idle. Even on my days off, I am constantly doing something because there is always something to be done.
So sitting here, essentially locked up, isn’t going well.
That and I’m hungry. So hungry.
