Istared up at Nevan for what felt like eternity.
His blue-gray eyes were sharp with anger, his cheeks flushed, chest heaving, and the book I’d given him was dangling in his grip.
“Can you say something now?” he asked. “Because you’re making me a little nervous—”
My lips collided with his. The book thunked to the floor as he wrapped his arms around me, bringing me flush against him. His hands slid up my back and to my neck, fingers threading through my hair. He tugged me toward the bed, pulling me backward and kissing me the entire way. Our mouths kept bumping together awkwardly, both of us smiling so big we probably looked ridiculous. But I didn’t care.
He wanted me. He knew my real name, and he still wanted me.
I kissed him harder. I kissed him with everything I had, this man who wanted to be mine. All mine.
“Are you actually letting me choose the location?” he murmured against my mouth. “That wasn’t part of our deal.”
“I’ll let it slide this one time, but only because I’ve never been in your room.” I stopped kissing him, looking around at the bare space with only a bed, a nightstand, and a small wardrobe. “There’s nothing in here.”
He laughed. “It doesn’t really feel like a home, to be honest. I just sleep here because it’s easier. I can wake up and get to work. Work right until I want to pass out in my bed at night. No commute necessary.”
I frowned. “You don’t even have a kitchen.”
He shoved a hand through his hair, and his adorable sheepish smile made an appearance. “Most days, Chef Liam or Chef Elowyn are kind enough to bring me something.”
“Your entire life really is in this tower,” I said, unable to imagine never venturing out, not being able to dig my hands in dirt and plant new seeds and see all my creations.
“But I don’t want it to be.” His expression grew serious. “I always did until I met you. Now I want to swim.” He kissed me tenderly on the nose “I want to ride . . .”
I raised a brow. “Ride what, exactly?”
He kissed my neck. “Your lily pad, you pervert.”
I laughed.
“I want it all, Kaladenid. With you.”
Hearing my name on his lips sent a thrill through me. This time, he kissed me tenderly, coaxing my mouth open and slipping his tongue inside. I loved these kisses. Sloppy and lazy and slow. Like we had time. All the time in the world.
It was moments like this with Nevan that I felt most alive. Where I could feel my blood heating, my body singing in a way it never had before. Not with Ambrose. Not with anyone.
My legs hit the edge of the bed, and we continued kissing and touching and enjoying each other until my mind started overthinking all of this. Did he truly understand who I was? What I’d done?
“Wait. Wait.” I pressed my hands against his chest. “Nevan, are you sure about this?” He’d just discovered impossible news. He could still be in shock, not thinking clearly. “Don’t you have questions? Aren’t you confused?”
He paused, brows knitting like he hadn’t even considered that he should be confused. “I guess I was so worried you’d reject me again that this was almost a relief, if that makes sense. Of course this was the reason. You’re a demi-godwitch, so you put up walls. Understandably. But I can work with that, Enid. I can work with anything as long as it means you’re going to be by my side.”
A laugh burst out of me, and his smile turned sheepish again. I liked making him turn shy. I stroked his cheek. “That might be the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard, Nevan Wolfgang.”
He began unbuttoning the top of my dress, leaning forward to press kisses to my collarbone. “Wait. I do have one question.” He licked my throat, and I gasped. “What is your last name?”
“Earth,” I said between gasps as he kept licking his way down between my breasts, his fingers easily popping open the buttons of my dress. “All the demi-godwitches’ surnames were after their immortal parent, unless they chose to give that up.”
“Mmm,” he rumbled, kissing my stomach and sending waves of heat through me.
His fingers trailed from my navel all the way up to my neck until he was standing at his full height again, my dress parted to reveal the upper half of my body. His pupils were blown as he took me in, desire stark on his face.
He’d seen me naked many times, but this felt different. It felt like the first time he was truly seeing me, and for once, I didn’t want to hide anything.
He skimmed his hands over my shoulders, pushing the fabric of my dress until it was falling down my arms and hanging off my hips.
Why was this so erotic? I never knew someone undressing me could make my body throb like this. And it was throbbing. My thighs quivered, the area between my legs flooding with need. I let my dress fall all the way to floor, and it pooled around my ankles.
