“Don’t think too hard into it, Prez,” Mercy says, eyes still closed. “We’ll only fuck with them the normal amount.”
“Which, for the record, is less than I fucked with them growing up,” Sunny adds, winking at her brothers.
“Prospects, ignore Sunny and get back to your posts,” Gallows says, tipping his head at them to get gone.
We watch as they leave, their posture and the way they carry themselves more like ex-military than the sons of a pastor. Although like Sunny they’ve been raised to be alert. If they can survive prospecting they’ll make solid Saints.
My gaze moves around my club, my family. The Wolves are still out there wanting revenge and Amos Crowe is pulling their strings but I don’t feel like I once did. Like it’s my time. Now, I’m greedy. I want as many days as I can with Sunny. With the Saints.
The crunching of tires on the main gravel drive has us all turning in that direction. River leans out the window of the guard shack talking to someone in the vehicle before nervously looking in our direction.
“What the fuck?” Gallows asks as the prospect beelines for us.
“Ah, Prez?” His eyes flick to my VP before nervously back to Gallows. “There’s a woman at the gate for Mercy. Says it's important.”
Mercy raises her head, cracking one eyelid open. “Who the hell is it?”
“Olivia? Said she’s Louise’s sister?” River shuffles from one foot to the other.
Mercy frowns at Gallows for a moment. “Her sister? Did she say what she wanted?”
“She said her sister and brother-in-law were killed in an accident.”
Mercy freezes, her face paling. “Their daughter?”
“In the car. Olivia said it was her sister’s wish that Luna be with you.”
Mercy gasps, her hand flying to her mouth. Gallows stands to comfort his sister but Jubilee is there, pulling her out of her chair and into his arms.
“Shit,” Coyote curses under his breath, eyes on the vehicle still idling at the gates.
Sunny places her palm on Mercy’s back, murmuring something to her friend. Mercy nods and turns to Gallows. No words are spoken. It’s written all over Mercy’s face.
“Open the gates, Prospect,” Gallows murmurs, eyes on the blonde woman at the gate, holding the hand of a little girl that looks like Mercy.
Sunny leans against my arm, pressing a kiss to my bicep before lifting my arm and placing it over her shoulders, snuggling in close. “She’s gonna need us, Elias.”
“Yeah.”
“We gotta protect them. If Crowe knows about her -”
“If Crowe comes anywhere near my family, it’s war,” Gallows growls.
Sunny moves even closer, wrapping her arms around my waist, the heat of her body warming me from the inside. We watch as Mercy and Gallows step up to the gate, waiting for it to roll open.
“Mercy deserves all the good things,” Sunny murmurs under her breath.
“So do you,” I reply, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
“I have all the good right here,” she says, squeezing me a little tighter.
My heart stutters at her words. I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I deserve Sunny Richards. But that won't stop me trying every fucking day to worship a woman who saw me at my worst and still chose me.
“I fucking love you, Sassy.”
She turns her face up to mine, her smile fucking breathtaking. “I know.”
I huff out a laugh, pulling her closer, watching my family welcome a little girl who needs us. I used to think God had abandoned me. Turns out he was leading me home all along.
