“Not helpful, Say,” I grind out.
“Sorry,” she mumbles into her bowl, averting her gaze.
Before anyone can say anything else, there’s a knock at our door. We share a confused look.
“I’ll go see who it is,” I volunteer, mainly to get away from the attention of my friends and the sight of my overflowing suitcase.
I leave my bowl on one of my nightstands and walk to the front door, peeking through the peephole to see what looks to be a delivery driver. After pulling my sweater back over my shoulder where it had fallen down, I open the door.
“Package for Miss Driscoll,” the man in the black polo says upon opening the door.
There’s a large black box with a pink satin ribbon on a hand truck next to him.
“Oh, that’s me.”
“Is it all right if I bring this inside?” he asks once I confirm who I am.
“Sure?” The word comes out like a question.
He rolls the package into the living room and sets it down.
“Have a nice evening.”
My gaze stays on the gift as I mumble, “You too.”
“What is that?” Marigold asks, poking her head out of my bedroom.
“I have no idea,” I answer, then notice a card tucked into the bow. I pull the pink envelope out and tear it open.
My Princess,
I thought it would be wrong of me, as your Prince Charming, to not provide you with a few dress options for tomorrow evening. Keep as many as you like, or tell me if you hate them all and we can go shopping tomorrow in the city.
Yours,
Hayes
My hand covers my mouth as heat washes over my face. And the other trembles with anticipation when I reach out and tug on the bow. The box collapses and opens to reveal a rack full of dresses in protective bags.
My friends join me in the living room in time to see the big reveal.
“Is that from Hayes?” I nod. Saylor gasps. “How romantic!”
“He’s starting to grow on me,” Marigold says with a small smile. “You deserve someone who takes care of you.”
“It’s too much,” I whisper, and pull my phone out of the pocket of my sweats to text Hayes those exact words. His reply is instant.
Prince Charming: No such thing. Besides, it’s a gift to me, too. I picked out what I thought you’d look best in.
My face heats even further. I tug the zipper down on one of the dress bags to reveal a beautiful red silk dress. We’re just going to dinner with his parents, but I know it’ll be at some five-star restaurant. I was worried about not having the proper attire, but Hayes took away that concern. If only he could alleviate the others.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” Jasmine giggles. “Try them on!”
My roommates start chanting “fashion show” in unison. I can’t hold back my smile as I head into my bedroom with one of the dresses to change. Before taking off my loungewear, I text Hayes again.
Aurora: Which one is your favorite?
Prince Charming: The one you end up wearing tomorrow night.
