“Yes,” I said obediently as I clasped his slender hips in my hands. “But slowly. I don’t want to hurt you.”

I had to use one hand to guide my cock to his anus, but I didn’t want to let go of him altogether.

“Spread your bottom for me,” I said, a distinct huskiness in my voice.

A pink blush danced on his cheeks as he shifted his weight and reached behind him, spreading himself just enough that I could fit the tip of my cock in place. The heat from his body eased into mine.

We were on track now. Serious conversations could happen later. Or never. One could hope.

I pushed and eased, lifting my hips, then lowering them. Slowly, as always.

With his teeth gritted more than I would have liked, he sat back, lowering himself down, our bodies connecting. A slow glide, inch by half inch by inch. It would have been easier any other way, but as he looked at me, chin dipped to his chest, I felt that was part of what he wanted. To see me. To look me in the eye as if to sayNone of that matters, those mothers and fathers. We have each other now.

I made the final thrust into him. Or, rather, I let my body do it, hungry to have him, to be inside him. To push and withdraw, to curl my hips and arch back.

And all the while he rode me, supple movements turning to hitched breaths and shudders. He came in a spill over his belly, his sweet, perfect belly, and I followed, thrusting hard into himas I came. My body, it seemed, had reached its limit, and any self-control I’d managed to exert left me as soon as it could.

He arranged himself on top of me, a weight I gratefully accepted. But we were a mess. Our sweat made the twilight air feel chilly. My cum slid down the inside of his thigh in a sticky sheen. His cum was smeared between our bellies.

We would need a pressure hose to get clean, but I smiled against his mouth and clasped his head and kissed him until neither one of us could breathe. He smiled back, a laugh in his throat.

When he rolled off me, I shifted to my side to shelter him from the breeze coming off the creek. It was getting dark. The sun had gone behind the foothills, twilight coming on in dusky blue and purple bands above the treetops.

The rest of the weekend was a flurry of moments, both sunlit and fog-shrouded; the nights filled with star-shine. Him in my arms, his sigh against my mouth.

I had my work, and he had his: the audit. On Monday, though, when I stepped into the barn for something, he was there, settled in Walter’s old office with his laptop and a tall stack of folders. A pencil. A fancy sharpener. His tongue stuck out as he worked, but he wasn’t wearing glasses, which was a damn shame.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Being here,” he said, “so I’m available when you’re done for the day. And look.” He held out a thermos and a large square of something wrapped in waxed paper, complete with an old-fashioned fold to keep the contents secure. The contents were warm in my hand. “I brought you a treat from the kitchen.”

I opened the package to reveal two large brownies. One was even a corner piece.

“I asked Ruth. She said you liked those especially.”

I took a huge bite. It was heavenly. I held out the rest of the corner piece to him so he, too, could enjoy the deliciousness. To my delight, he did try a bite, then took the thermos from me to swallow some coffee before handing both back to me.

“I have a favor to ask,” he said. “The brownies were a bribe.”

“Why?” I asked around another mouthful of chocolate. “Anything you want. Anything at all.”

“I want you to teach me how to not be afraid of horses.” He smiled and looked up at me through his lashes. “I already have boots.”

“I can teach you with Snowball.” I stuffed the other brownie into my mouth.

“The big white one?”

I chewed and swallowed a lump of chocolate. “Yes. With no cattle in sight, no saddle on her back, and only a halter and lead? A child could guide her.”

“If you’re sure,” he said, sounding totally unsure.

I cupped the back of his head and kissed him, tugging on his cowlick, smiling into the kiss. I wanted to tell him how brave he was, but I didn’t want him to feel self-conscious. I skimmed over the day to come in my mind.

“Tomorrow, after lunch,” I said. “You can help me groom her. That will help you get used to her.”

“Okay.”

Just then, Cameron went past the office. He paused and opened his mouth to say something, but Dalton raised a finger in warning. Cameron shrugged with a laugh and continued on his way.
