“It feels good,” I answer honestly. “It felt natural.”

“That’s great, Marsh!” She smiles and gives me a hand squeeze from across the table. “Big moves happening in the fake dating world.”

“I was thinking we should go there in the morning and if we leave by fivep.m.,we should be able to be back in LA before midnight depending on traffic.”

“So,Iwas thinking,” Lucy says, “what if we stayed the night?”

“In Palo Alto?”

“Yeah.” She nods. “We could spend Sunday in San Francisco, and I can write a piece about weekend vacations and how to rekindle the spark or some bullshit like that.”

The idea of walking along Fisherman’s Wharf with Lucy, having lobster rolls and ice-cream cones, and driving through the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito—all the things that I would normally avoid doing—sounds more exciting than it should.

“Okay, let’s do it.”

“Amazing.”

“Marshall?” I hear a voice behind me.

Turning around, I see Brixley Carter waving. She’s only twenty-three years old and one of the most popular OnlyFans models, making an easy six figures in the past year.

“Brixley, hi.” I stand up and gesture for her to take one of the empty seats. “It’s so nice to meet you. Thank you for chatting with us. This is Lucy Reid. She’s another writer and helping me with this story.”

“Nice to meet you, Brixley.” Lucy shakes her hand. “Can we get you anything?”

“Oh no, I’m good, thank you.” She takes a seat. “It’s nice to meet you both.”

There’s not an ounce of makeup on Brixley from what I can tell, and she’s wearing oversize Adidas sweats, socks, and slippers. Her dark skin is flawless, and her long braids sit in a bun at the top of her head. Her nails, on the other hand, are the opposite of low-maintenance and are at least four inches long with jewels on each finger.

I place my phone on the table in between us. “As mentioned in the email, this interview will be recorded. Everything that you say can be used in the interview. Confirming you’re giving me permission to record?”

“You have my permission,” she says, and I hit record.

“All right, Brixley,” I start. “How long have you been a model on OnlyFans?”

“Almost two years,” she says.

“And what made you decide to start using the subscription service?”

“I heard it was good money,” she says. “I was working at Starbucks, and I like expensive things.”

“Were you in college?” I ask.

“I was in my first year of business school,” she says. “Then by month eight, I already made what would have been my entire tuition.”

“Do you remember what your first post was?”

“I was literally just playing a video game in a bikini,” Brixley responds with a laugh. “It was open to all subscribers, and it did fine. I think I made like a hundred bucks off it. Then I realized that was my niche. I kept playing games, and the more games I played, the more subscribers I got. So, I switched up the games and then started switching up the bikinis.”

“Did you always feel like you were in control of the narrative?” I ask.

“Always,” Brixley says. “There are some people on there whosay whatever they want to say, they’ll ask me to do things, but Ineverdo anything I don’t want to do.”

“What’s the difference between the videos for your regular subscribers and your VIP content?” I ask.

“Regular subscribers only get the public videos, and anyone that pays for VIP gets the more sexually explicit content.”

“What’s the general average you see people pay for VIP content?”
