"For the record, I never would have let you fall."
No, he'd been the one to push her.
"Says the man who refused to listen to me and throws his bimbos in my face," she rasped, praying that she disguised the hurt shredding her insides.
"In my defense," he smiled, "I tried to keep her in the closet."
She almost laughed but didn't. He could win her over with that devilish smile. She wouldn’t allow him to manipulate her with his charm. He pushed open the door, his hand at her back, guiding her inside. Raven stepped away from his touch.
“When this is over, I won’t see you again.” There was too much at stake now, and she couldn't depend on him for her happiness anymore.
"And I've made myself clear. I want answers, Raven."
She saw the flash of pain in his eyes. And the caregiver in her wanted to comfort him. He'd always had that effect on her. The ability to make her forget all her responsibilities, all her fears, to give him full access to her hopes and dreams. Hopes and dreams that he’d crushed with cruel accusations.
“There’s someone else in my life, Darius. There’s no place for you.”
