The way her hip cocked to the side in that dress that was made just for her.

Her toned smooth shoulder that he was dying to run his knuckles over.

Or her ass that he found himself looking at way too much in the gym.

He wondered if she knew that she was just tugging him along in some game to see how long it took before he cracked.

What had he told his mother? That he was stronger.

That he couldn’t break.

He wasn’t so sure now, but at least it was in a different form.

“So she is saying.”

“Do you think it’s more? I can assure you it’s not.”

Garrett grinned at him, then looked at Gabriela who was standing with Justine and wiggling her eyebrows.

“I’m not so sure of that, so maybe just keep your eyes open.”

Garrett walked away after that, leaving him alone.

Which lasted for ten seconds before Gabriela made her return to his side.

“I thought you were supposed to shield me. You’re failing.”

“Ahh, who is bugging you? I’ll go get in their face.”

“You saw it. Your mom, then your brother.”

“I love getting in Garrett’s face, but he wasn’t here long enough to bug you. More like he left you confused. I’d rather not know what that was about. We’ll switch to my mom. What did she want?”

“She still doesn’t know my blood type. Not through lack of trying though. She’s made her way to my side several times and is always called away. This time your brother pushed her along.”

“Everyone is being friendly. Is it really that bad?”

“No. It’s nice. I’ve talked to a few other doctors, met some more. Met a lot of parents in your family with kids. I think I spent more time doing that.”

Which never bothered him. It was nice to know who was who and everyone was good about it.

No one came off like they were going to ask him a million questions on if it was normal for their child to eat bugs, or want to wear the same outfit five days in a row.

Those questions... he could handle them and had been for years.

Guess he found it easier to socialize with children than adults.

It was hard to retrain his brain, but he felt he was hanging in there well enough.

“Then you’re having more fun than me.”

“Really? Because it looks to me you’re smiling every time I glance over.”

She fit her arm through his and tugged him out of the room and toward the hallway. He wasn’t sure where they were going, but that was fine with him.

“I am smiling because it’s better than screaming.”

That didn’t sound good. “What am I missing?”
