The door closed behind me, and the glass remained opaque. I dropped my bag on one of the chairs in front of Jake's desk and smiled; whatever he saw on my face must have broadcast my intention, because he pushed his chair back against the bookshelves behind him, and opened his arms to make room for me.
I plopped myself onto his lap. One of my favorite things about Jake's size was that he could take the force of my movements without a flinch. He did so then, his arms immediately wrapping around me, his lips immediately dropping onto mine.
We kissed as if we hadn't seen each other in ages. His tongue danced with mine. He squeezed me tight. I let out a soft moan, and pulled from his bottom lip. Time continued to warp my perception of Jake and I, because I hadn't kissed him since the day before, and it felt like an eon had gone by.
"Okay." His voice came out deep and hoarse. He cleared his throat. "Maybe we should leave it there. You said something about the party?"
I put my arms over his shoulders and played with the hair at his nape. "Flowers are confirmed, and the reference they gave us for decorators came through— They will make room in their calendar for us. Now we only need to decide on the specifics, and we'll be done with our share of planning."
"Perfect. It's only a month until the party so it's about time. Do you think your parents suspect anything?"
"No way." I laughed. "They're in the dark. It's going to be amazing."
"They might cry."
"I hope they do. They deserve the love. The celebration."
He nodded, and reached for my mouth again in a soft, quick kiss. "Agreed. Now, do you think we can escape for dinner somewhere? Just the two of us."
"Mhh. That would be nice."
His blue eyes looked a warm shade of ice in the office light, his hair closer to blond than red. His gaze was affectionate, the way he cherished me clear in the dark pool of his pupils.
It pulled me to him, it moved inside of me with the power of the tides. Like he was the moon, and this growing love for him in my cells was an ocean.
The metals in my blood warmed and allied themselves in my lower belly, calling for our joining to feel as close to him as humanly possible.
"Why did you react that way when I came in?" I asked. "You said, fuck me."
He pulled his lips to the side, humor appearing on his gesture. "You're wearing one of my favorite dresses you own. You were a vision coming into my office like that."
His eyes traveled down my body, snatching on the organza tied at my neck.
He took one of the long pieces of fabric and pulled slowly from it. The tie became undone. "Do you know how many times youwore this dress and I had to forcefully stop myself from doing just that?"
"How many? Give me a rough estimate."
The dress was one of my favorite pieces, too. Deciding to wear it every week moving forward was easy, considering the effect it seemed to have on Jake.
His hand shifted to the first button on the textured cotton twill making up the body of the garment.
He undid it. "How long have you had it?"
"A couple of years."
"If you used it twice a month, then a rough estimate would be forty-eight times."
He undid another button and licked his bottom lip.
My lungs had started to work harder, and my breasts pushed against the sweetheart neckline.
He opened a third button and, with gentle fingers, pushed the organza aside to reveal my skin. He kissed the top of my breast. Nibbled on it. I took a hiccuped breath.
He groaned. "It's unfortunate we need to stop."
I frowned. "The fuck we are."
I got up, lifted my skirt up my legs, and sat on his lap again, straddling him.
