"Max…" I sobbed.

"Mark me again as you come, Eva. Come so hard you make me come, too."

I did. I exploded into infinity, a place where there was no him or me, not even a world to touch. Everything was on hold, pure potential, but with no awareness. All I knew was pleasure. Eternity in an instant.

My consciousness didn't return until an indefinite amount of time later. The first thing to break through was Max's mouth pressing to mine. We both held still, until I nipped at his bottom lip. The small gesture spurred him to kiss me again, more, insistent.

"My back may be bleeding." A small, pleased smile appeared on his lips. He dropped his forehead to mine. "Maybe we should have signed a waiver after all."

"I'm going to miss you," I murmured.

He sighed. "I'll come back as soon as I can."

"But you have to go."

We sat on the bed and I put myself back together. He buttoned up his shirt, hiding the results of my bites. His eyes were closed and his breathing still fast, his half-hard dick resting against his thigh.

I would miss him, so much.

I was doomed.

Ten minutes later, we stood by his car, luggage stowed away. We held each other for as long as we could. Anyone around could see us and it didn't matter; we didn't do it for show. The distinction didn't matter to us anymore.

"Text me," I said. "And call me when you can."

"I'll send telegrams if I have to."

"Come back. Prove that you may have to go away sometimes, but you'll always come back."

"Nothing can stop me, darling."

He kissed me once more, before he drove away with my heart in his pocket.

I watched him go until I couldn't see him anymore.

Chapter 31

Max

"I think he's goingto try to call for a vote of no confidence. It's the only way he could get you out of his company."

Marlene's words ran down my back like a bucket of cold water.

I stared at her, sitting across from me in her office. Made of more glass than walls, the view of London from the skyscraper should have been incredible. At the moment, it was nothing but a blur.

After leaving Eva the night before, I flew to England and went straight to discussing the situation with my Board accomplice. Marlene's goal matched mine; she wanted to change the direction of my father's conglomerate and, eventually, have it dismantled. After pulling a few strings, she'd received a bit moreinformation about the extraordinary meeting to which she had been summoned. It didn't look good.

I crossed my legs. The innocent move pushed me against the backrest, and a stinging pain shot from several places on my skin. The results of Eva's marks on me.

In the middle of my worry, the reminder of our goodbye grounded me. I sent a quick thank you to her in my mind. It sounded close toI miss you.

Was this what it was supposed to feel like? It hadn't even been twenty-four hours.

"That would be a desperate move," I said. "He doesn’t have any real chance to manage such a thing. The rules for a vote of no confidence are clear, and they don't apply to me."

She frowned. "Your business is in order? Your personal projects and investments?"

"Of course. I am meticulous and you know it."
