Or adjusting to the fact that I wanted my husband of convenience to choose me and make a home with me in Laguna Island.

I bit my lip. After only two days with his found family, all veils had been torn from my eyes.

The way I turned into a protective spouse at the drop of a hat. The way he got real laughter out of me. The way I wanted to share a bed with him forever, only so I could see him every night and every morning. This fondness for him, bright and gold and glittery, warm and expanding, that could easily become lasting love. They were all signs, and it was time I accepted my affection had crossed an invisible threshold sometime in the past few weeks.

I couldn't deny it anymore. I adored Max. I wanted him to choose me. So badly.

I didn't know how to go about it, except to keep going, and hope I would survive the grief I might have to go through, if when— if he left.

I knew that if I asked he'd promise me forever, but I still didn't know I would believe him. He was too much of an optimist, and what we had these days was too perfect. Didn't mean it would last. So I didn't ask.

His eyes, serious for once, searched my face. "What's going on?"

I shook my head. He nodded, accepting the shields I held on to.

"Shall I tell you a little secret I've been keeping for a few hours?" he asked.

I accepted his offering with a smile. "What secret?"

He grinned, and cradled my head in his hands. "We got the house. The paperwork is ready for us, when we return to Laguna Island tomorrow."

"What?" I put my hands on his chest, and took a step closer to him. "We got it? Is it official?"

"Official as soon as we sign the papers."

I gasped. His grin grew impossibly wide, more radiant than ever. If there was a moment when I craved to kiss him, it was then. He offered me my dream home on a platter, with a side of incandescent joy. Max owned every ounce of happiness I'd experienced of late.

He took my realism and turned it into anticipation. He took my contentment, and turned it into jubilation.

"You are a magician, Max." I fisted my hands in his clothes.

He shrugged in dismissal, but his grin didn't diminish. "Nah. I'm just rich."

"No. You have money, but more than anything? You make wonderful things happen."

He put his forehead on mine. I closed my eyes and, lifting my hands, I interlocked our fingers. I held both his hands as he cradled my head, silently asking him to never let go.

He rubbed his nose on mine, until they rested side to side. The closest to a kiss we'd ever had… not counting his cueca tease.

I smiled. "Can you make sure the paperwork is ready for us as soon as we make it back to Laguna Island?"

"You can count on me, darling."

Chapter 30

Eva

"Welcome to the ErrázurizMedina home."

I still couldn't believe those words.

Upon arriving back to Laguna Island, we signed the papers, sent them back by express delivery, and went home to celebrate. Having Max fuck me until I'd lost sense of time and space was a fun way to mark the occasion.

Two days later, he gave me the keys to the new house, and welcomed me in with magical words that still resounded in my mind.

Then he fucked me in the kitchen. With one of my knees up on the laminate island counter, he had first dropped to his knees to eat me out to completion, before fucking me from behind and stealing another orgasm from me.

"Eva?" Ale asked. "Remember I'm leaving soon."
