“When were you going to tell me, Dav? Huh? The one time a year that we see each other?”

“I was going to tell you.”

“I don’t believe you,” I said matter-of-factly. “I’m not going back to Cali. If you don’t want me here, that’s fine. I’ll figure something out on my own, but I’m not going back.”

I stood in his face, crossing my arms.

“It’s not up for discussion. Turn your ass around and get in your car,” he barked, standing in my face just as hard-headed.

We stood there for a few moments, neither one of us backing down. The girl he knocked up walked up to him and grabbed his arm. “Okay, okay,” she said, pulling him back.

“This obviously isn’t going anywhere, so why don’t we take a break and revisit this? Thea is it? Why don’t you go with me and I can get you a drink and something to eat? You’re probably hungry.”

She looked at me with a smile on her face. Moments ago, I would have liked her, but knowing I had spent the last year alone while she was shacking up with my brother didn’t sit right with me.

“Look, you might be my brother's next little fling, but that doesn’t mean you have to pretend to be nice to me. Just because you’re knocked up now doesn’t mean he won’t leave you and the baby like you’re dirt. He obviously doesn’t have any sense for family.”

I said the words to her but I was looking right at Davien.

“That’s my old lady,” he said as he grabbed the back of his neck like he was nervous. “We’re getting married.”

I took a step back as the words registered in my head. I don’t know if it was the fact that I knew my brother was happy, living his life, and starting a family without me that broke my heart, or knowing that I wouldn’t be able to tell him what I was running from anymore. It wasn’t worth the risk. If he found me and used them to get to me, I would never forgive myself. I’ve already seen too many people die, and I didn’t want to add to the list.

This trip had been a disappointment. I had to get out of there. I knew I was going to cry if I didn’t and it couldn’t be around all of those people.

“Congratulations,” I whispered. “You’re right. I should have never come here.”

I gave the room a quick glance, and sure enough, so many people were staring at the fucked up family reunion that had just taken place. Just as I was about to head towards the door, my eyes collided with a pair of deep blue ones.

His brows lifted in recognition.

Mine widened in horror.

Fuck.

It was him.

I knew the club sounded familiar, which meant I hadn’t just slept with a stranger. I slept with the president of my brother’s motorcycle club.

I turned and headed straight for the door.

Chapter Five: Maverick

I couldn’t believe the girl who had walked out on me this morning was just standing in the middle of my club, screaming at my enforcer. Ares was one tough son of a bitch, too. He got his road name because of the time he served in the military and being one scary-ass motherfucker. I knew grown-ass men who wouldn’t dare talk to him the way that she just did. Something about her fierceness made the blood rush to my dick. I couldn’t think about that right now or the fact that I had missed being in her pussy the moment I woke up and I realized that she had fucking run out on me.

Seriously?

Never in my life have I ever had a chick run out on me like that. I had thought last night meant something, that we connected, which is why when I saw her eyes begin to doze off after we came down from round four, instead of rushing her out the door, I grabbed her and pulled her close to me and let her sleep.

A lot of good that fucking got me.

I should have kicked her ass out.

Now, she stormed into my clubhouse and blew up one of the biggest bombs we’ve had in years. Ares had a sister, one that no one knew dick about. Fuck, I knew he was going to kill me when he found out I banged her.

It would still be worth it. Last night was truly amazing, though I realized that nearly everything she told me was a fucking lie, like that her name was India and she was 26 and from Chicago. She even had a fake ID to back it up. As soon as I woke up this morning, I had Jason check the scans at around the same time she came to the bar. Yes, I wanted to find her. No, I didn’t want to think about what that meant.

He pulled up her ID, and sure enough: India, 26, from Chicago. So why the fuck was Ares calling her Thea and what else did she lie about?
