The driver nodded. “That’s it. We go around the district and bring you right back here.”

I stared at him another second before noddin’. “A’ight.”

Sha’Nelle looked at me as I walked her toward it. “Why you look at that man like he was tryna kidnap us?”

“I don’t know that nigga,” I told her while keepin’ my eyes on him.

“He drivin’ a horse, Renza.”

I cut my eyes toward her. “And I still don’t know that nigga.”

I had my shit on my hip anyway, so this nigga was stupid if he was on bullshit. I ain’t care how harmless the setup looked or how many people was around. A nigga could be drivin’ a horse, pushin’ a stroller or sellin’ damn lemonade, and I was still gon’ pay attention to who the fuck was around me and Sha’Nelle. That came natural to me, especially when I had her with me.

I reached for her hand and helped her step in the carriage, then climbed in right behind her without takin’ my attention completely off the driver. Once I was seated beside ‘Nelle, I adjusted my shirt over the gun at my waist and looked around before finally settlin’ back.

Sha’Nelle glanced down at my hip, then back up at me with that look she always gave me when she knew exactly what kind of time I was on.

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders and pulled her into me. “What?”

“Nothin’,” she said, but that lil’ smile on her face told me she already knew.

I kissed the side of her head and looked back toward the street as the carriage started movin’.

Sha’Nelle settled against my side and looked out toward the city while we rode through Midtown. The sun was almost gone now, and the lights from the buildin’s and restaurants was startin’ to come on around us. People moved on the sidewalks while music drifted from different spots, and for a while, me and Sha’Nelle just sat here enjoyin’ the ride.

I looked down at her and moved some of her hair away from her shoulder.

She turned her face toward me, and I leaned down and kissed her neck.

Her fingers rested against my thigh while I kissed the same spot again. I let my lips stay there longer this time, then sucked on her skin until I felt her lean closer against me.

“Renza, don’t leave no hickies on my neck,” she told me low.

I paused for half a second…

I knew exactly why she ain’t want no damn mark on her neck, and the thought of that nigga seein’ it crossed my mind before I could stop it. I could’ve said somethin’ about his bitch ass right then, but I wasn’t finna fuck up the day we just had by bringin’ his ass into our carriage ride.

That ain’t mean I listened either.

I put my mouth right back on her neck and sucked harder.

“Renza,” she complained as her hand pushed against my chest.

I slid my arm tighter around her waist and kept my mouth against her skin until a soft moan slipped out of her.

I sucked harder, lettin’ my lips stay on that same spot before I dragged my tongue across it slow. I ran the tip of my tongue around her skin in lazy circles, then kissed the spot and sucked on it again while my hand slid around her waist and pulled her deeper into my side.

“Renza,” she complained, pushin’ me again.

I felt that weak ass push and kept right on kissin’ her. My tongue moved up the side of her neck before I brought it back down, lickin’ slow around the same spot I had been suckin’ on. I could smell her perfume all over her skin, and every time my lips touched her, I felt her body relax a lil’ more against mine.

“Quit,” she murmured, but there wasn’t much behind that shit when she said it.

I slid my arm tighter around her waist and sucked on her neck again, then opened my mouth over the spot and rolled my tongue across it. Her fingers curled into the front of my shirt, and another soft ass moan slipped out her mouth before she could catch it.

“Mmhhmm,” I hummed against her neck, kissin’ the spot a few more times.

Sha’Nelle’s hand stopped pushin’ against my chest, and her head fell back against my shoulder while I moved my mouth further up her neck. I kissed under her jaw, dragged my tongue back down and sucked on her skin again until I felt her fingers tighten in my shirt. By then, she wasn’t fightin’ shit.
