“I know.” He ran a hand over his head as his brain raced, searching desperately for a solution. And then it hit him. “Isobel, you remember when my grandparents took over the panic room and scared the crap out of everyone?”
She grinned. “That time Callum flashed Rachel?”
“That’s the one.” He grinned back as everyone else frowned. “Katrina, I have a plan. We’re going to create a distraction so I can sneak in and get the code. You won’t have to leave the panic room; it can all be done from there. You in?”
“Definitely,” she said.
Rodrigo stood. “You’re not going alone,” he said to Ryan. “I’m coming with you.”
Ryan nodded, grateful for the backup.
“You hear that?” he said to Katrina. “Rodrigo and I will come get the code.” He glanced at the clock on the kitchen wall. “Does four a.m. work for you?”
“Of course. What do I need to do?”
Ryan motioned for Belinda to bring the phone closer as he sat back down at the kitchen table. “You got a notebook and pen handy?” he asked Katrina before launching into an explanation of how all the controls in the panic room worked.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
Ryan stripped to his boxers and quietly slipped into bed beside Sarah. To his surprise and delight, she was sleeping naked. Usually, she wore these cute little short pajamas, but nothing was good too.
“I’m awake,” she whispered, turning to curl into his side as he lay on his back.
He wrapped his arm around her, feeling the lush curve of her hip as she snuggled into him and rested her head on his chest.
“You should be asleep,” he said. “All pregnant women were told to sleep.”
“Yeah, by a veryunpregnantman.” She angled her head up and nuzzled his jaw. “When will you guys learn to stop giving us orders? We’re grown women who know how to take care of ourselves.”
“You were literally falling asleep in the chair,” Ryan pointed out. “And Julia was sinking lower and lower in the bed. Somebody had to step in.”
“Not the point.” She kissed his throat as her hands roamed his chest. “I might be tired, but I can’t fall asleep,” she complained.
“No?” Ryan threaded his other hand through her thick, silken hair. “Too worried to sleep?”
She shook her head. “Too horny.”
A laugh escaped him unbidden as his dick registered the word horny and stood to attention. Unlike many other men, Ryan didn’t get upset by his dick having a mind of its own. He liked that it was an independent thinker.
Sarah propped herself up on one elbow and frowned down at him. “I’m serious. I’ve been going nuts here. I’m so wound up I can’t sleep, and I really want to sleep. These pregnancy hormones are driving me mad.”
“Well, we can’t have that,” he said with a smile. “A mad Stats is a dangerous Stats.”
“I know it’s late.” She bit her bottom lip. “And I know you’re tired too. But you don’t have to do anything. Just lie there, and I’ll do all the work.”
She was hilarious—and cute as hell. Ryan dropped his hand to his side.
“Climb aboard, baby,” he said.
“Can we not use the word baby?” she grumbled as she got to her knees and unceremoniously removed his boxers.
“How about my little Venus? Or my Botticelli beauty?”
A smile curved her full lips. “Take a guy to the National Gallery once, and you never hear the end of it.”
Both hands now roamed his chest, but Ryan was more interested in her expression than how it felt. Hungry awe was the only way to describe it.
“I don’t know how you manage to have abs with what you eat, but I do appreciate them.” Sarah looked up at him. “Why are men’s abs so fascinating?”
