Already he wanted her again, even though they were both too exhausted to go for round two. Sleep, then sex. Lots of sex. Although, he wasn’t sure he could sleep. He felt wired, his mind racing, his body flush with endorphins and adrenaline. Yet, he was at peace. Because this was where he belonged.
There was a soft knock at their door, and Ryan pulled up the duvet ensuring Sarah was covered.
“Yeah,” he called softly, but Sarah didn’t even stir.
Dimitri’s head peeked around the door, and he grinned when he saw Sarah on top of Ryan. “We picked up the Baker guy. You want in?”
It was the perfect use for all the extra energy he suddenly had, at least until Sarah was rested.
“Gimme fifteen,” he said, and Dimitri closed the door quietly.
Gently, he moved Sarah onto the bed beside him before going to get a warm cloth to clean her up. She slept through everything. Ryan jumped in the shower quickly and dressed even faster. Pausing to write a note before letting himself out of the room.
Dimitri and Callum were waiting for him in the sitting room.
“Who’s staying to watch the women?” he asked.
It was the first time he’d asked that question of the team when he’d been the one who had a woman who needed protecting. It made him want to strut. Yep, Elle was right—he was basically a teenager.
“Joe and Megan are staying here,” Dimitri said.
Ryan’s eyebrows shot up. “Does Megan know she’s on watchdog duty?” Because the suite was pretty silent if she did. Usually there was a whole lot more shouting.
“She’s asleep. I tried waking her up, but she just complained.” Dimitri shrugged, grinning as he did so. “You snooze, you lose.”
“Your relationship is a mysterious thing.” And one that might end suddenly once Megan woke up.
“Are we done yakking?” Callum said. “Can we go hit someone now?”
Sharing a grin with Dimitri, Ryan followed his irritated boss down to the car. Twenty minutes later, they pulled up to an ugly concrete office building. The kind that was built the world over when budget was more important than aesthetics.
They were in a business park in the middle of the night, which meant the place was dark and deserted. Just the way they liked it. As they approached a nondescript side door, it swung open and Harvard appeared.
“What is this place?” Ryan asked.
“CIA safe house. You haven’t been here. You’ve never heard of it. It doesn’t exist.”
“Gotcha.”
They followed him into the building and down into the basement, where he swung a metal cabinet filled with cleaning supplies out of the way before they entered the door behind it.
“We have control of the cameras,” Harvard said as he led them down a long gray corridor. “And there’s no one in the building. Even if we aren’t done by office hours, it’s safe to leave him here. But it shouldn’t take that long.” He eyed Ryan. “You up to date on the game plan?”
“Got the rundown in the car. Did you have any problem picking the guy up?”
Harvard grinned. “Funny thing. We had it all planned out—how we’d distract his muscle and separate him from the rest of his people. But when we got there, Lake said to give him a sec. He sauntered in through the front doors of the strip bar and came out a couple of minutes later with Fournier on his heels. No bodyguards. No guns. Nothing. Lake just opened the back door of the car and Fournier climbed in.”
Ryan burst out laughing. “Does anybody know what he said to Fournier?”
“Nope.” Harvard shook his head. “But I’d like to. Because—damn.”
“And that’s why we work for him,” Ryan said.
“No kidding,” Harvard muttered.
Through another metal door. Down another set of concrete stairs. They entered a plain, empty room. There was one chair, bolted to the floor, and a man was cuffed to it.
Lake, Callum, Dimitri, Ryan, and Harvard spread out around their prey and watched as he nervously licked his lips. A lizard with a shoestring mustache and oiled hair.
