“That’s a good idea. With Ricard in custody, I don’t have to worry about going into town.” She wrapped her arms around herself. “Freedom feels good.”
“You know we’ll have to come back for the hearing and then again for the trial. Are you worried?”
“No. I want him put away where he can’t hurt anyone else. I’ll do what I have to in order to see justice served.”
“That’s my girl.”
Adam took her to the Adam’s Mark Hotel. He checked them into the penthouse and they took the private elevator to the top floor.
When the elevator stopped it opened onto what was a small lobby with two doors off of it.
He walked to the one on the right, passed the key in front of the code reader and opened one side of the double doors. Then he waved his hand out in front of him.
“What do you think?”
Millie looked around the open living room, dining room and kitchen. “It’s fabulous and you keep this just for potential clients?”
“And for the rare times that we have to stay in the city.” He brought in the lone suitcase they had packed…just in case they had to stay overnight.
Millie walked to the floor to ceiling windows and peered out. “The view is amazing. I bet with the lights on tonight it will be even more spectacular.”
“You’re right the view is one in a million.”
She turned toward him and found him looking at her. Her face immediately heated. “I meant the view out the windows, silly.”
He chuckled as he crossed the room toward a hallway. “Down here are the bedrooms. There are two and they are exactly alike.”
Millie followed him.
He opened the first bedroom door and held it for her.
She walked into the most exquisitely furnished bedroom she’d ever seen. The king size bed was covered in a patchwork velvet comforter and matching pillows. Smaller pillows, both solid color and some matching the velvet of the comforter, were piled on the bed in front of the sleeping pillows.
Millie walked into the bathroom. The double sink counter top was made of white marble and the cupboards were made of oak or maple, some sort of light colored wood. The sinks were ivory porcelain and the floor was black granite.
She pictured her and Adam in the oversize shower with five heads. The water would be coming from everywhere and they could wash each other. Suddenly she felt her face heat.
Adam came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. Then he leaned down and whispered in her ear. “Do you find the shower intriguing?”
She smiled, leaned back into his body and rested her arms on top of his. “I was thinking with all those shower heads that perhaps we should find a way so save water. What do you think?”
He chuckled. “I like the way your mind works and I’m all for saving water. We are in a drought after all and should do our part to help.”
“I think we should explore the shower before bed. What do you think?”
“I totally agree, wife.”
Later, much later, they exited the bathroom wearing the big, fluffy robes provided by the hotel.
“That was nice, but now I’m invigorated instead of relaxed and ready to sleep,” complained Millie. “What are we going to do to change that?”
Adam pulled her into his arms. “I’m sure we can think of something.”
Millie laughed and slapped his chest before wrapping her arms around his neck. “Yes, I’m sure we can think of something.”
The next morning Millie was awake before Adam. She watched him sleep. He was so incredibly handsome, with his chiseled jaw that could have been carved in marble and the morning shadow of his beard, she had a hard time believing he was hers.
“I can feel you thinking. It’s too early for that kind of talk.” His voice was low and gravely as he tried to get her to go back to sleep.
