The housekeeper lowered her hands. “Sounds like he’s finally found his soulmate. Once you find them, you know, and you’ll never let them go. There’s something in their touch that travels through you. Did Roark tell you his parents only knew each other for a week before they got married? They’ve been married now for forty-two years.”

Adrenaline made her pulse race. “What? Only a week.”

“His mother told me they knew because their touch was electrifying to the other.”

“That’s the way it is between Roark and me.”

“Listen to your heart. It knows.”

“Maybe. I don’t know, but I’ve got to go. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Go on, now.”

All the way to his office, Jessica thought of nothing but her and Roark.Do we have the same crazy thing between us that his parents did? Could he really be the one? Could it be we really are soulmates?

As she approached the office, Roark came toward her, a smile on his face.

“There you are. I wondered if I was going to have to send armed men to retrieve you from Athena.”

“She’s such a lovely woman.”

He took her cup from her and then put her hand in his. “She is. She and Jubal have worked for me for fifteen years…ever since I bought the place. She’s been like a mother to me, even though she’s not that much older than me. Shall we go?”

“Go where?”

He grinned. “On the helicopter. You want to, don’t you?”

“Oh, yes. What about my crutches?”

“You can take them, but I’m carrying you out there.”

She tilted her head and shook it no. “Won’t Mannie and Jubal be ready to go?”

He waved away her concern. “They can wait. Are you ready? Do you need anything?”

She shook her head. “No, I’m fine. I’ve got my coffee in a spill proof travel mug, which might turn out to be a really good idea.”

“Okay. Let’s go.” He picked her up and carried her to an immense building.

She’d thought the building was an arena. Apparently, she was wrong. Now that they were getting close, she saw the large doors on one end. “Is the helicopter inside?”

“Yup. This is its home.”

“Does it fly out those doors or get rolled out?”

“Neither.” He led her into the structure.

The copter sat below an open ceiling.

He stopped.

She looked up. “Oh, my goodness. I never expected the roof to retract. That’s a great idea.”

“I thought so when I designed it.”

Her jaw dropped. “You designed it? Are you an architect, too?”

“Sort of. I know enough to draft the idea of whatever I need. But I let a real architect do the hard lifting with the actual structure and electricity and all the other things that go into building a hangar for a helicopter.”
