He nodded. “Yes. You might have already been there before, but even if you have, it’s still wonderful. You’ll need a bit more coat, but I’ll give you one of mine that will work for this trip.”

With the lights in the limo’s interior on, she could actually see the excitement on his face.

They arrived at Roark’s home in Cherry Hills.

The enormous house was brick, with a circular driveway and covered entry. It looked like she was arriving at a really nice hotel.

“My parents also live here when they are in town. It’s sort of a family home. This is where we celebrate the holidays, so it has to be large enough to accommodate everyone.”

“So how large is large?” She looked up at the house, mansion really.

“Well, I have two brothers and their families, my parents and me, so we have nine bedrooms and ten bathrooms. There’s an outdoor pool for use in the summer and an indoor pool for the winter. We also have a separate building holding the gym, with a hot tub and a sauna. If you want, I’ll give you a tour when we get back. For now, though, I’d like to get coats and the convertible Camaro.”

George opened the passenger door.

Roark exited the vehicle and held his hand out to help her. He turned to his driver. “George, I won’t need you any longer. Have a good night.”

“Yes, sir. Thank you.”

The driver smiled and returned to the limo. He pulled away as she stared at the house.

The building was beautiful, without being ostentatious. She figured most of the house was toward the back. She couldn’t see it.

Roark grabbed her hand and led her inside.

The entryway was huge, with marble flooring. On one side was a living room, with the dining room on the other.

He took her into the kitchen. Her entire loft would fit in it. She knew that was a bit of an exaggeration, but it was big. In the center was a horseshoe-shaped island with eight stools on one side and the sink, dishwasher, trash compactor, cupboards and drawers on the other. They’d built in the refrigerator to look like part of the wall.

“Would you like a drink? On the other side of the kitchen is the bar. I have wine of several varieties, all from my vineyards, of course, and also beer and liquor for just about any mixed drink you desire.”

Jessica laughed. “No, I’m fine. Why don’t you go get your jackets?”

“Yes…the jackets. I almost forgot.” He hurried out of the kitchen. “I’ll be right back.” He started out of the room.

“Roark. Is that you?” a woman called.

Roark hollered back. “Yes, Mom. It’s me. Come meet someone.”

His mother came around the wall into the kitchen. She was about Jessica’s height and weight, with a beautiful figure. Her beautiful silver hair was cut into a stylish bob. It looked terrific on her. The style brought out her cheekbones.

“Hello. You must be Jessica. He hasn’t been able to talk about anything oranyonesince he met you.”

Jessica felt her face heat and knew she blushed. “Is that right?”

Roark shrugged.

Marian clasped Jessica’s hand. “Welcome to the family. I’ll leave you two to do whatever you’re doing.”

Roark hugged his mother.

“I love you, son.” Then she stepped back and left the kitchen.

Roark gathered Jessica into his arms and kissed her on the forehead. “I need to get some jackets. I’ll be right back”

Jessica touched her lips and smiled. How could he make her feel so alive when they’d only known each other for a matter of hours?

She looked around the kitchen and admired the light-colored granite of the kitchen countertops. This was a kitchen she could love. She loved to bake and would have lots of room for cooling the cookies. Her Monster Cookies made twenty dozen last time she made the whole recipe. She mixed the wet ingredients with her stand mixer and added that to the oatmeal, flour and other dry ingredients in a stockpot. Then had to mix them together with her hands, in rubber gloves, all in a stockpot.
