“Um, good evening to you.”I’m not used to being addressed by someone I’ve never met before.

Jessica stepped into the vehicle and slid on the soft leather seat to the other side of the car.

“Mr. Sullivan.” The driver nodded his head slightly toward Roark.

“Thank you, George.”

Roark climbed into the car.

The driver closed the door after him.

Jessica gazed around the inside of the limo. The seats were the softest leather she’d ever felt. Across from her, the seat had a middle table, which held a decanter of what dark liquid she assumed was brandy. The carpet under her feet was nicer than the carpet in her loft.

“I must insist you put on your seat belt, my dear.”

“Oh, of course.” She quickly buckled the belt, though she hated the thought it would leave a crease. But that was better than the alternative if they should get into an accident. “So far, this has been the most amazing evening of my life. Thank you, Roark.”

The car pulled away from the curb and she could barely feel it move. The ride was so smooth.

“It’s my pleasure, Jessica.” He lifted her hand and brought it to his lips. He kissed the top, then turned it over and kissed the middle of the palm and then her wrist.

She shivered. Just these little touches, and she was already more turned on than she’d ever been. She was literally putty in his hands.

He didn’t release her hand, but tilted his head down a little. “I read in your profile that you volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club and you’re twenty-seven. Jessica, does the age difference between us bother you?”

She smiled. “Not in the least. My father was ten years older than my mother, and I swear to you, she was the adult in their relationship. My father was a nice, cheerful man. He loved to laugh and loved to make people laugh. But he didn’t take care of himself and that, along with heredity, killed him long before it should have.” Her throat tightened as she spoke of her father’s death. She closed her eyes, not wanting to relive the pain she felt then.

“I’m sorry to hear that. I assure you I take care of myself and I have no hereditary conditions. Nothing to worry about in that arena.”

“I’m glad to hear it.”

He finally released her hand. “Tell me, what book are you working on now? I read your latest book today.”

She thought for a minute. “You read my latest historical romance, A Heart of Silver, correct? Thank you for reading my book. I have to ask. Did you like it?”

He lifted her hand and kissed it again. “I did. You have quite the imagination. Who would have thought of angels coming back to Earth to save a deserving man and grant his heart wish?”

She grinned. “I was feeling divinely inspired for that series of books. What do you do for fun? Do you take any time for vacations?”

“I definitely take time off. Though, I’m not sure it would be called a vacation. I go to Montana, to my ranch there. It’s where I’m happiest. I work with the cattle, go camping and fishing.”

She pressed her hands into her lap and turned her body toward him before she realized she was emphasizing her bosom and quickly sat back. “Oh, I love to camp and fish. I haven’t gone in years, not since my father died.” She took a deep breath and let it out over the lump in her throat. “I miss it. I miss him.”

Roark took both of her hands in his. “Why don’t you come with me to Montana? We can go camping and I’ll show you the best fly-fishing water in the state.”

She wanted to sayyesso badly. “I don’t know. I’m on deadline and my editor is expecting 100 pages within the week.”

He didn’t release her hands, but rubbed circles on the top with his thumbs. “Think about it. I’m planning to go for a week and I’m leaving early next Friday.”

“I will…think about it. It’s a very tempting offer.” If she did what her heart wanted, she would go, no questions asked. She was more attracted to Roark than any man she’d ever known.

But her head said for her to slow down and think about what he was really asking. Did he expect sex while they were at his ranch, probably out in the middle of Nowhere, Montana?

And what about her book? She needed to finish it and get it to her editor.

He pulled her as close as he could while she wore a seatbelt. “What do you need in order to work from my ranch?”

She watched him in the dim lights of the interior of the limo. He was anxious, even worried she’d say no. Seeing him this way was strange to her and probably to him. She doubted he’d ever had a woman turn him down for anything. “Basically, all I need is a wi-fi signal and a place to put my computer.”
