“Just to lay down for a while. Give me a twenty minute power nap and I will be good to go again,” decided Henry. He was awake more hours than he was asleep these days, however he still needed small naps.
“Then I guess I will say goodnight. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Ben told him in farewell as he left Henry’s room.
Henry laid down on the bed. It was nice to be back home. It didn’t smell like a hospital, or have the beeping machines, or the nurses coming in to interrupt while jotting down notes.
It was home and Henry was happy to be back.
He didn’t know how long he slept but it was Cora who woke him. Daisy was sleeping on one of his legs causing a pins and needles feeling. Daisy half opened an eye to watch Cora bring in a glass of water and some pills.
“It’s time for meds,” stated Cora as she sat down on the bed.
Henry sat up, pulling his numb leg out from under Daisy who continued to sleep. He checked his watch before taking the pills and water. “That was more than twenty minutes.”
“I expect you slept longer since you have been awake since this morning, waiting to get discharged from the hospital,” mentioned Cora as she leaned back against the headboard. “I have some leftovers from supper. Are you hungry?”
“I’m still full from the food Max snuck in from Elle’s dinner,” replied Henry as he set the water glass on the side table. “Are you ready to watch the next episode ofThe Gorgeous and the Botoxed?”
“Are you sure? You don’t need to rest?” wondered Cora in concern.
“I just had a four hour nap. I can stay up for an episode of our favorite show,” decided Henry.
Cora reached for the remote. “Your favorite show? Somehow I doubt that.”
“It’s grown on me. Maybe tonight is the night I finish an episode,” replied Henry as he settled back against the pillows.
They watched the drama unfold on the screen as Texwalked down a dark alleyway only to have a shadowy figure follow him.
Two episodes later, it was Henry who was shutting off the television as Cora leaned against him, sleeping soundly. At some point during the second episode, she had taken hold of his hand, threading her fingers through his.
Leaning his head against the crown of hers, Henry looked at a sleeping Daisy with a smile before drifting off to sleep.
Epilogue
Ten months later.
Cora wasn’t sure what to do.
They had settled into a comfortable routine. They had breakfast as a family. Henry dropped off the boys at school. He went to the gym with Ben and Kitty before coming home to care for Adam while Cora either had a late morning or early afternoon class. She was working part-time on finishing her degree, inspired by Adrianna. Then she would go pick up Nick and Oliver from school. The boys did their chores and homework while she and Henry made dinner. After, Nick and Oliver had the evening for fun in the pool, riding their bicycles, or video gaming.
The day ended with her and Henry watching television together, her hand in his as she leaned against him.
It was a good routine. It was a comfortable routine. Cora was happy and didn't want to push her luck.
However, she was also starting to get a little frustrated.
Susan Hythe was part of the problem. The woman had set her sights on Henry and was being very open about the fact she thought he was handsome, rich, and eligible.
It was rather true, dryly reflected Cora. Just the other day she had watched Henry and the boys in the pool while feeding Adam inside.Henry had gained weight back, was healthy, tanned, and other than the scars from the surgery, looked handsome and perfect.
He made her heart skip a beat lately. She could blame it on the dark hair and blue eyes with his easy smile, but Cora knewit was the way he simply was a good friend and partner. Henry helped however he could, without complaint. Plus, he was wonderful to cuddle up with while watching television.
Cora shouldn’t be worried about Susan or any of the other single women at Livingston Academy. She wasn’t worried. She knew Henry loved her.
Yet she couldn’t help be alittle jealous when they were at Oliver’s soccer match and Susan leaned over, touching Henry’s arm and chatted to him.
Okay, maybe she was a lot jealous, thought Cora. She could admit that to herself. Henry was hers. She didn’t want to share him. It didn’t help that she learned from Kelly that Susan had once tried to dig her talons into Dillon a couple years ago when he was single.
Susan seemed to have a thing for Ramesly men.
