“Bart’s okay, and that’s what matters, though.”
She shook her head with a smile.“The way you moved. You didn’t hesitate for a second. You really are a guardian angel.”
He swallowed.“Fallen.”
“Still an angel,” she said.“Wings or not.”
The words hit him harder than he expected.“It’s hard not to just always think about what I lost. Not what I still am.”
He’d spent a long time thinking he was forever broken and incomplete. But being with Tessa made him feel whole.
“I just seeyou.”
He turned and drew her close, his whole body warming and his heart hammering in his chest.“Mine,” he said simply, and then he kissed her, pouring all his feelings into the kiss.
He was happy. For the first time ever.
And he was falling hard for the beautiful human who’d single-handedly healed the broken parts of him, seen and unseen.
“Take me home, Venice,” she whispered, panting for breath when the kiss was finished.
“I was thinking the same thing.”
Note to Self: Fallen angels are even hotter when they’re in protective mode
Tessa’s whole body was still tingling from making love to Venice.Nothing she’d ever experienced before in her life was as good as being with him.
“Sweetheart?”
“Yeah?”she asked, tipping her head back to look at him.
“I asked if you were hungry.”
“You did?”
“Yes, twice,” he said with a chuckle. He kissed the tip of her nose.
“Sorry, I was just thinking about how my toes are still tingling.”
He hummed in a way that sounded almost like a growl, and she loved it.
“So are you hungry?”
“I am.I can see what’s in the kitchen.”She rolled to her back and stretched, not wanting to get out of the warm bed that smelled like Venice.
They talked for a few minutes about going out to eat and a movie as they’d planned, and eventually decided to order dinner from the diner, have it delivered, and watch a movie at home. She looked up the menu online, and both chose the fried chicken platter.
Venice called, and she slowly made her way off the bed and started to dress.
“I’m going to run and grab the food,” Venice said as he came back into the bedroom.“Tia said they’re in the dinner rush now and can’t do delivery for at least an hour, if not longer.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“Of course.I’m ready when you are.”
A few minutes later, they were on the way to the diner to grab their food.Venice parked in the lot next to the diner and gave her a quick kiss.“I’ll be right back.”
“I’ll be right here,” she said.“And feel free to grab a piece of that chocolate cake I saw in the dessert case the last time I was here, if they have it.”
