I throw my hands up. “What lie? We’re not together. You broke up with me, and I wanted to move on. What did I lie about?”
“That there was someone else! That you fucking knocked her up,” she grits out.
Rubbing my hand down my face, I shake my head. “It wasn’t like that at the time. It—fuck, Bri. I don’t owe you an explanation! What are you doing here? You follow us, huh?”
She steps back at my warning tone, crossing her arms. “So what if I did. I deserve to know.”
“No,” I tell her, shaking my head again, “you don’t. You just hate that I didn’t come crawling back to you. I’m happy, I’m moving on. You should too.”
“Logan—”
I put my hand up. “If I catch you following us again, if I hear you giving her any trouble in town, you’re done. You hear me? I’ll have you evicted and fired before the day is over.” I’ve never spoken to her like that, and I hate doing so. Bri has been a part of my life for so long, but Morgan is my future, and I won’t let her threaten us.
When her tears start to flow over her cheeks, I scoff in disbelief and head back to the car my baby mama is waiting for me in, ignoring whatever Bri’s screaming at me.
Morgan doesn’t say anything as I climb in and take off out of the parking lot. Our lunch is long forgotten. She’s silent for the rest of the ride back home, and it doesn’t sit well with me.
“Are you mad?” I finally ask.
Her eyebrows dip. “Mad? Why would I be?”
“That I have a crazy ex that stalked us to our appointment.”
Morgan snorts. “No.” Then she laughs a little. “It actually doesn’t surprise me.”
I flash a smirk at her. “I don’t know if I should be offended by that.”
“I’m just saying that I think I’d have a hard time letting you go, even if I was the one who broke up with you.” She bites down on her lip, looking out the window with a pinched look. I can tell she regrets saying it.
My knuckles tighten over the steering wheel. “Bri…She was familiar. It was easy, you know? That’s kind of all it ever was. I didn’t have any guilt fucking other women, it was just the way of life.”
Her eyebrows dip and her throat bobs, but she doesn’t comment on what I said. Instead, she turns to the window. “How do I join the club?”
My hands tighten on the wheel. “It’s an old tradition that technically none of this generation has really followed, or they’re twisting. I think Gage even offered to get rid of it.”
She looks back at me with tight lips. “Why are you avoiding the question?”
I swallow. “Because it’s going to sound bad when I say it. I know how it looks from the outside.”
“Then just say it. If there’s no way around it, then stop beating around the bush.”
I let out a hollow laugh. “You fuck two of the council members or make them come. Or let them see you come. I’m not sure where the line is anymore.”
She scoffs. “Wow. I’m not doing that, ever.”
Against my better judgment I keep talking. “Technically you let Judge watch and he’s on the council.”
Her eyes widen, and her face pales a little. “Oh my god.”
“It’s not a big deal for us?—”
She laughs. “No, I’m beginning to realize sex doesn’t mean anything to you all. I’ve heard rumors about the clubs basically being free-for-all orgies, but I put my head in the sand, willing myself to ignore it.”
That doesn’t sit right with me. The dismissive attitude when every time with us has meant more than anything I ever had with the club girls.
“Morgan, I haven’t wanted to be with anyone else since I saw you again. That night in the bathroom? I replayed it, fucking my fist more times than I’m willing to admit. Everything about you is different. I can’t explain it.” It might not seem like much, but if she truly knew how easy it was to get pussy, she’d realize how obsessed I am with her.
Her hand rubs over her belly and she sighs. “Lust…and I’m the new shiny thing. It feels exciting at first, but it will fade. I just…I guess I’m trying to say that maybe it’s not fair I hold you to exclusivity. I’d rather know if you’re sleeping with others than be driven mad with worry about it.”
