Jack was a piece of shit, and I’m glad we got rid of him. It was coming well before that, and I don’t miss the asshole.
“Plus, since we stopped running and legitimized most of the businesses, those tiny dick council members have been trying to get us kicked out,” I add.
As much as I love our clubhouse and the town most of us grew up in, I’d love a day where we don’t have to look over our shoulders, to know that someone isn’t going to try to arrest us for stupid shit, or try to get the businesses put under for bullshit.
Viper sighs, climbing down the ladder and then staring at me. “It would help if you stuck around.”
I bristle, not liking the accusation before taking a deep breath. “Maybe I plan to this time.”
He snorts, gathering up all the empty boxes on the tables. “You say that, then disappear into the night. Look, I ain’t one to complain, but besides Fox and Steel, most of the prospects ain’t shaping up to be much. Reaper comes into town less and less, and I’m running thin with Dodge and Gage busy with their kids. Most of the old guard has disappeared as well. Shaw doesn’tleave Mik’s side, Bear hasn’t been seen in weeks, and the rest of the fuckers drink themselves useless everyday. Razer has tried to help, but he runs back home every time his old lady has a fucking broken nail.”
I raise my eyebrows, surprised by Viper’s bitching. He’s not one to complain, and I have a feeling that he’s more worried than he’s letting on.
“Alright, man. It’s not a problem. I’ll stay in town as long as you need me.”
He nods, not saying anything else, and I follow him into the back of the restaurant as we clean up the mess before he finally breaks the silence.
“I haven’t told Gage, but I drove up to the closest building those fuckers bought up. They had men stationed at the entrance, men with the type of guns that shouldn’t be carried in broad daylight.”
I curse. “What you thinking? Mafia, maybe? We still have a large stash put away, but not like the arsenal we used to carry.”
He shakes his head. “I don’t know, but I think we’re sitting ducks if we don’t start treating them like the enemy they obviously are. I ain’t telling Gage how to do his job, but I think we might look a little weak to others since we ain’t running anymore.”
“And Gage doesn’t want to fall back into old ways after all of Shaw’s work to get us here,” I say, rubbing my hand down my face.
“Yup. Let me know how we protect the club without undermining our prez’s decisions.”
I scowl at his sarcasm, but nod anyway. I already planned on staying in town. My curiosity about Morgan is drawing my interest more than the road, but the club is my life, and I’d die for it.
Viper
forgot how peaceful it was without Creed as my shadow
Creed
Fuck you. Ask someone else the next time you need help shining your bald head
Judge
My paralegal just asked why I was giggling at my phone. GIGGLING. I don’t giggle.
Razer
You do. It’s a little creepy tho like one of those little rat dogs gagging
Judge
Okay and you got buck teeth
Creed
Ah, that’s not Razer’s fault. We all know Debbie let him have his binky for too long to keep him quiet
Razer
how did this turn around on me
