I lean against the counter of the desk, Sam pressed into my side. After clearing my throat, the brunette’s head jerks up and her eyes widen when she sees me. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t hear you come in,” she breathes. Her gaze moves from me to Sam and her brows pinch. “Can I help you with something?”
“Yeah—”
Her attention moves from me, and a blush colors her cheeks.
Billy comes up behind me. “Lilliana.” He nods.
She wets her lips. “Hi, Billy.”
“I need my schedule,” I cut in.
Her eyes stay locked on Billy’s, like she’s lost in them.
I tap on the counter. “You think you can get it for me?”
The sound brings her out of her haze, and she clears her throat. “Yeah, just give me a second.” She types in my name without me giving it to her.
“What lunches do I have?”
“Hmm?”
I wave my hand toward the computer. “On my schedule. What are my lunches.”
“Oh … um … looks like you have B and then C.” She blinks up at me. “Why?”
“Gonna need you to change the first one,” I tell her. “I need it to be A.”
“W-we …” She shakes her head. “We’re not supposed to do that. And anyway, I’d have to move around other classes to make it work.”
I look around the space. “Nobody’s here.”
“So?”
“So, nobody would know.”
“I don’t—”
“Come on, Liliana,” Billy says, his voice taking on that tone that always makes girls fold. “Can’t you just do it this once? Like a favor.” He takes a step closer and drops his voice. “I’d owe you big time.”
She looks up at him through her lashes. “You would?”
He nods.
She rolls her lips before peering over her shoulder. “Okay, fine.”
“Aw … you’re the best,” Billy tells her. “We really appreciate it.” He raises an eyebrow at me. “Right?”
“Yeah, thanks.”
She glances up at me and nods but doesn’t say anything.
A few minutes later, the sound of the printer cuts through the room and she hands me my new schedule. “This work?”
I look it over and grunt.
“That means yes,” Billy clarifies. “And thanks again,” he adds with a wink.
We turn to leave, but before we get to the door, the girl blurts out, “So, I’ll see you around then?”
