“I’m getting you ice.”

She sighs, but doesn’t argue so I get up and go to the freezer, bundling some ice in a hand towel. “Too cold?” I ask when I press it against her skin.

“No, it’s fine.” She shifts her mouth, making the green gunk on her face crack. “This mask is starting to get itchy though. Probably needs to come off.”

“Thank god,” I mutter, getting up again to wet another towel. “The green complexion is starting to freak me out.”

“You won’t be saying that tomorrow when my skin looks as fresh and soft as a baby’s ass.”

“I like your face just fine the way it is.” I get all the green wiped off then lean back on my heels. “How’s the ankle feel now?”

She gets to her feet a little gingerly, but she’s able to put her weight on it. “Fine. Really.”

“Maybe chill on the dancing for the rest of the night.”

She rolls her eyes. “Please. It’s not an epic sleepover without dancing.”

“And junk food, apparently. How are you not all feeling sick?’

Her face brightens. “Did you bring the ice cream?”

“It’s in the fridge.”

She grins. “My hero. Sorry we dragged you away from guy’s night.”

It’s my turn to roll my eyes. “When I left, Bodhi was trying to convince Leo to put on a Disney movie.”

She laughs. “Sounds about right.” She starts to nuzzle into my chest but pulls back almost immediately. “God, Wyatt, you reek.”

“I do?” I start to lift my arm so I can check the pits but she shakes her head. “You reek of smoke.”

“Oh, right. Well, we had a couple cigars.” I attempt to puff up my chest. “Despite the groom’s questionable taste in movies, this is still a very manly party.”

She shakes her head, leaning back, as if the smell of cigar clinging to my sweater is causing her physical pain.

“I’ll make sure to shower before I put on my suit tomorrow,” I promise.

“You better. That suit is Tom Ford.”

I nod solemnly. “If I’ve learned anything in the early years of our marriage it’s to always respect the Tom Ford.”

She laughs, pushing me away. “Go back to your cigars and Disney.”

“We have whiskey, too.”

“Don’t drink too much. We don’t want you looking all ruddy for the pictures.”

“That’s what your mom said.” I risk offending her nose again to lean in and kiss the top of her head. “You’re having fun, right?”

No matter how many times I see this smile, it still steals my breath. She’s so beautiful when she’s happy like this. “So much fun.”

“Good. You deserve it.” After all the work of the last few weeks, she deserves to do nothing for the next twenty-four hours but relax and enjoy her family and friends.

I kiss her again, on the lips this time. “I’ll miss you tonight.”

“I think we’ll survive.” But she kisses me back, in spite of the cigar smell. “See you in the morning?”

I start to walk to the door. “Keep that ice on for ten more minutes, okay? And let me know if you guys need anything else.” Over my shoulder, I add, “of if you want to sneak back into our bed after everyone goes to sleep.”
